Some confusion arising from the number of bearer channels resulting from the pri-group timeslots 1-30 command. This is the configuration that I have found in the BCRAN exam guides but when viewing the serial subinterfaces they are numbered s1/0:0-29 with one (s1/0:15) being the D channel. Is it just me or is this only 29 bearers instead of the 30 that are described in the specification. Surely the command to configure the E1 controller should be pri-group timeslots 1-31?

yup you're right, according to the BCRAN coursebook page 216, the timeslot argument for the pri-group command would be 1-31, and the interface command would be 0/0:15 !

Thanks for the help!

I've got 3 ISDN PRI lines at work on three seperate 2600 routers. Two of them have let me change the pri-group timeslots command to 1-31 on the fly & it does give me the required number of bearers. However one of them is being a bit more stubborn & disconnects any connected lines when I try & change this command. I have even shut the serial interface down first but still no luck. Any ideas?

try the following commands to troubleshoot.

debug isdn event
debug isdn q921 - layer 2 signaling
debug isdn q931 - layer 3 signaling

dont use all at once as the output will be intermingled....if you can get it working, - brief us!

Remember, you must count the zero.

SpeakEasy, as I said in the earlier post I managed to change the command on two out of three of our ISDN PRI 2600's to 'pri-group timeslots 1-31'. This has given me the 31 serial subinterfaces numbered s1/0:0-30. The D channel is S1/0:15 as we already know, leaving 30 bearers as required. So this must be correct & not 1-30 as described in the books & on cisco's web site.

Unfortunately I am still having trouble with one of them which will not let me change the syntax of the timeslots command from 1-30 to 1-31. This is strange as the router has the same spec & IOS level as the others.
