I know I saw a chart somewhere listing the costs for various links, I think it was related to OSPF. Anybody know where I might find this again?

Thanks,

I don't know where you saw the chart, but in Cisco's OSPF the cost is, by default, 100000000/bandwidth.

Well, I knew the calculation, but I swear I saw someplace where they gave the formula along with a chart for the common defaults for links.

I found another list. Not quite the one that I remember, but the material is the same. Got the following from Cisco's site:

In general, the path cost is calculated using the following formula:

10^8 ÷ Bandwidth

Using this formula, the default path costs were calculated as noted in the following list. If these values do not suit your network, you can use your own method of calculating path costs.

56-kbps serial link—Default cost is 1785

64-kbps serial link—Default cost is 1562

T1 (1.544-Mbps serial link)—Default cost is 65

E1 (2.048-Mbps serial link)—Default cost is 48

4-Mbps Token Ring—Default cost is 25

Ethernet—Default cost is 10

16-Mbps Token Ring—Default cost is 6

FDDI—Default cost is 1

You can also find it in the ACRC text. Once my boss brings my book back in, I'll be able to give you the pg #.

Didn't this change to accomodate GigE? Otherwise anything faster than 100Mbs has a fractional cost.

You can change it yourself, with

auto-cost reference-bandwidth bw

bw "...in megabits per second (bandwidth). The range is 1 to 4294967; the default is 100." (this is a quote from www.cisco.com).
