| Darth,
I will be taking MCNS before the 15th.
I hope to take CIT next week, that will give me over a month to study.
Have you recently finished the CCNP?
If so, is the MCNS really a change of gears? or is there some overlap between it and the CCNP exams?
I'm curious because I do not have the book yet.
However I WILL take the exam before the 15th.
Good Luck,

| It doesn't look like Cisco is retiring this track. If your CCNP prior to the 14th, you only need to take the 1 speciality test. It looks like after the 15th the following exams are required for the Cisco Security Specialist 1
640-442 MCNS Managing Cisco Network Security
9E0-571 CSPFA Cisco Secure PIX Firewall Advanced
9E0-558 CSIDS (formerly NRIO) Cisco Secure Intrusion Detection System (formerly NRIO)
9E0-570 CSVPN Cisco Secure VPN
P.S Below is a cut and paste from cisco site regarding retired ccnp specialities. Retired Exam Last Day
to Test Related
Certification(s) Current (Replacement) Exam
640-443 MCRI 14May01 CCNP Network Management NONE
640-444 MCSI 14May01 CCNP Network Management NONE
640-446 CATM 14May01 CCNP LAN ATM NONE | |

| Stick,
Your kind of right, they are retiring the cert CCNP-Security and replacing it with CSS (or whatever they are calling it). Although the web site makes it seem like they are renaming it, they are completely restructering(sp)it.
The discussion on the thread above is correct. If you have a CCNP and take MCNS by May 14, 2001, then you are CCNP-Sec, if not you have 3 more test to be a CSS.
I personally want to take the test. May as well get the cert.
IMO, I don't think Cisco is expecting the certs to be equal. CSS is obviously has a higher enphasis on security.
But you are right, the CCNP-Security Cert is being replaced by the Cisco Security Specialist.
Whatever the case they are being very vague.
Later,

MCNS tests an entirely different set of technologies, but the exam format is no different, if that's what you mean. No fill in the blank questions, and for some reason I think it was shorter. Search for MCNS and see my impression of the exam that was written right after I sat for the exam if you're interested.
