| again i'm sending a call for information!
i'm almost ccnp (1 exam to go)
i want to prepare the ccie written
for what i've understood
it means i will have to study at least 5 books
and take a SINGLE exam for the ccie written.
it makes me feel unconfortable
because a SINGLE exam to test
knowledge of about 2500 pages...
i don't mind about the 2500 pages to study,
but i would have prefered
5 exams rather than a SINGLE one
because each exam is like a feedback
and more than that it's easier
to concentrate on the next chapters
when the previous one have been validated
once for all.
i hope you understand.
i've read a post saying
that CCDP covers about 70 to 80%
of the CCIE written.
if it's confirmed
it could be a way to get a feedback
during the preparation of the CCIE written.
but if the CCDP and CCIE written exams objectives
are different, it's not worth
to spend time on CCDP...
if you prepared or are preparing CCIE written
it would help me if you could share your experience...
thanks for your comments

| I'm not preparing for my CCIE written, yet (I'm still working on my CCNP)but I have a couple of peers preparing for it and a couple who have taken it and passed or failed it. They have all spend a lot of time study for their CCIE test and have worked with Cisco exquipment for years. They all used more than 5 books to study for their test. The CCIE test is meant to be very difficult. It would be a lot easier if it was broken down into test like the CCNP. This is what makes CCIE so valuable because they have to really understand the information in a wide range of areas. Unfortunately there are no short cuts. I would get the TCP/IP routing version 1 book from Cisco Press, and version 2 when it comes out. Also Lan Switch, top down network design, build large scale IP networks, Caslow's routing and switching for CCIe's and advanced IP network design. study, study and study. | |

| ok peep peep peep peep make way CCIE takee coming in.. j/k
ok as far as I know the CCIE written test is actually compiled from CCNP status.. by no mean the CCDP tests are even close to this test.. I haven't taken it but my fellow ccie's have and told me that if I sit down and read all the books I have for CCNP and some for CCIE I will do fine... the thing is that CCNP does not cover ATM,DECNET,IS-IS,Token Ring in detail, which are on the CCIE test. I feel ready to eat this one too but the test is too much.. $300 can you believe it? but will give it a try once I come back from CCIE 2 weeks training. I will come back with some feedback pretty soon for all of you... | |

I think the whole point is that you have ALREADY read the books and
understand most of it. I've been at this a while and one day decided to
take the written test. It wasn't a walk in the park, but it wasn't that
difficult either. But again, I read almost all the books on the
recommended list. Read most of them while in school, while studying,
while on planes etc.
Besides, the written is required to schedule the ccie lab. The written
is only good for one year. So if you pass it and don't schedule your
test, you may have to take it again. |
