| Just passed the switching exam a few hours ago scoring 901. The exam was relatively easy, it mostly cover stp and vtp coupled with general networking questions. The wording of the questions seemed difficult to understand at times and there were a few duplicate questions.
The materials that I used were Cisco Press (this book will bore you to death ), Exam Cram (Brief and straight to the point) and Boson 1&2.
The exam is really not that difficult and you only require 699 to pass!
I'm now preparing to study for BCRAN, which materials do you guys recommend? Your early replies will be much appreciated.
Many thanks to you all for your comments and advice on this site.

| Sorry, I have nothing to offer you, as to your question about the books.
I just wanted to acknowledge you on your achievement.
GOOD job!

| On the BCMSN exam, are the questions directed more toward set/clear based switches or IOS CLI type of switches? Obviously I'm refering to the command questions. All of my hands-on has been with a 5500 series set/clear switch. No experience with IOS type CLI other than the RSM and very basic routersim. How would you rate the exam having just passed (ie, easier than expected, harder than expected)?
Almost forgot to congratulate you on passing BCMSN exam. Well Done!

| The exam was mostly directed towards set/clear based switched although there were a few ios based commands mostly on the 1900/2820 Cisco switches. The exam was definitely easier than I expected. | |

| Congrats on the pass. Cisco books are usually good, so you'll probably want to use them for BCRAN. I'm planning on taking BCMSN in 9-10 days.
What percentage of the exam consisted of command line questions? I've got all the concepts down, but am having a hard time remembering command syntax.
|
| In my case I would say about 15% (of 64 Qs) were command line questions and they were pretty basic. My advise to you will be spend the next 5 days on VTP, Vlan & STP, then the remaining 4 days on Multicasting, HSRP and general switching topics.
Goodluck, you really have nothing to worry about on this one!
|
| Don't spend much if any time on HSRP unless you are on the CCDA/P track. There was none of that junk on the test even though I spent about three days trying to thoroughly master it. Stick with VTP, VTP, STP, MLS, Multicasting....in that order pretty much. Read the Cisco Press or Whatever you have- then re-read and take notes. You will do fine after that. Best of luck to you all, although you won't need it on this one if you are familiar with Cisco tests and are into it. Jr... |
