Author AUX line number is = tty +1! but ..

The book I have did not make it clear. Lets say I have a 3620 which has two slots which would make the tty line numbers for slot 1 1-32 and for slot 2 33-64 which in turn makes the AUX port tty +1 = line 65 and the VTY tty +2 = line 66,67,68,69 right!!! But now what if I do not have slot 2 filled with a card on the router does that make AUX tty +1 = line 33 and VTY tty +2 = 34,35,36,37.

Does it matter if the slots are filled? And if it does matter then what happens when I add a card to the second slot. Do the line numbers change automatically or do I have to do some configuration.

Thanks for clarifing!!!

AFAIK it doesn't matter. The numbers for ttys are reserved.

Here's part of the "sh line" output on my 3620 (slot 0 has an NM-1E1R2W Module, slot 1 empty):

Tty Typ Tx/Rx
0 CTY
65 AUX 9600/9600
* 66 VTY
67 VTY
68 VTY
69 VTY
70 VTY
................
Line(s) not in async mode -or- with no hardware support:
1-64

This is true specifically on the 3600 series, so that if you add a modem card to an empty slot, it doesn't mess up the configuration on your vty and aux lines. The 3620, 3640, and 3660 all reserve different numbers of lines because of the different number of slots in the chassis.
