CCNP certification discontinued

As of February 1, Cisco has dropped the requirement that CCIEs attend a
Networkers session as part of obtaining recertification. CCIEs must
still pass a recertification exam every two years to retain active CCIE
status. There are currently 5,297 active CCIEs worldwide.
The Career Certification program at Cisco has undergone much larger
changes - a combination of reshuffling and expansion. The CCNP and CCDP
specializations will be discontinued, and "Cisco Qualified Specialist"
designations will take their place. These new designations are open to
anyone who has earned an Associate level designation from Cisco (CCNA
or CCDA) and wishes to demonstrate more specific expertise. Current
Specialist designations available are: Cisco Cable Communications,
Cisco Security Specialist 1, Cisco SNA/IP Design Specialist, and Cisco
SNA/IP Support Specialist. Each exam costs $100, and recertification is
required every 2 years. Existing CCNP/CCDP specializations will remain
valid for 2 years from the date they were earned.

| As indicated in Cisco web site the CCNP Voice specialisation will still be available. This is what I want to get after my CCNP and CCDP. | |

| This is misinformation...CISCO is discontinuing the SPECIALIZATION exams, not the CORE exams. The CCNP is still Valid...2.0 was just released what last summer? Anyway, the specialization exams will be replaced with new exams. See http://www.cisco.com/certification for more information. I just went up to the site and confirmed | |

| Ok, you got my blood boiling pretty quick this morning!! Thank god that it is NOT TRUE!! Like others I went to Cisco's site and check it out to make things clear........and clear it is, only the the specialization designations are changing, that's it!! | |

| Omeletteboy, if you will read what you posted from the discussion site in your original post you will see that it says only the CCNP specializations and NOT the CCNP itself. Sometimes you have to be careful to read every word to get the full understanding. And indeed, under what's new at Cisco's site it has had that information available for quite some time. | |

I also was surprise, but as you all have said ,it is the specializations that are retired. I hope cisco makes up its mind on what to do.
I don't see the need for the new track. Are they going to accept other vendor's certs?
how do they rate the new certs, is it at par with a CCDP/CCNP?
How does it help me for my CCIE designation, which I believe is still cisco's ultimate? | |

| This discontinuations are routine of certification policy every exam that complete its time limits so I think why you afraid with it there is replacement for each of exam. for everycompany and new exams are the alternate always |
