Sybex was only good for CCNA preparation. Most of their other books are disappointing after you've read CCNA by Todd Lammell

Cisco leaves the rest behind when you go for more advanced certification.

Im using both. They each have their points. The people who write the Cisco Press books also write the tests. However they arent always easy to understand.

I agree - but stick to Ciscopress, I find that if I have anything I don't understand a quick search on this site finds it's been raised before.

CCNP Cisco books...which

Exam Preparation bundle
or
Certification Library?

Well mcoates,

Exam Preparation library is good if you don't have that much overall experience in the topics covered. They are the official texts for the CCNP courses set by Cisco.
they give you good in-depth knowledge in Routing, Switching, Remote Access and Troubleshooting.
The Prep Library does not contain any CDs.

If you have good experience then go for CCNP Certification Library. These books are recommended if you just need to brush up on the topics for the exam.
They have CDs with them that contains exam test software and pdf version of the books.

I am just using the Prep library and Boson 1,2 & 3 because I can't justify paying some more money to get the Cert books....yet!

thnx FastIP...

Hey, I am booked to do a Global Knowledge BSCN 5 day course mid Jan...

Do these Cisco courses supply any of the texts from those prep or cert libraries or do they supply a course book unique to their course?

thx

You'll need to check with GK as to what course materials they supply with BSCN.

Cisco's Prep books are taken from their own course materials amd written by the instructors themselves.

I agree with FastIP. I used the Cisco Press and Exam Cram books for the CCNA. I am using Cisco Press Exam Cert Library for CCNP. Boson has good practice test.

I have been very fortunate to have been able to use a number of study guides. But, i tell you, nothing beats Cisco. Study materials from Cisco Press are second to none, and for the icing, they are not only good as study guides, but you can refer back to them fi a lifetime. And they are practical.

If I had to choose I would go with Cisco press.
But to be honest I wish you had added a "both" option to your poll.
That is what I used.
Of course my emplyer paid for the books, which helps.
I am doing a Global Knowledge CID course in mid January in atlanta and am looking foward to it.
I am completely "self taught" up to now.

I use the Sybex CCNP Router Sym.
IT has all the basic CCNP labs that are in the sybex books.
But it also allows you to be somewhat creative.
Also it isn`t to pricey
Another plus is its easy to move the license from one computer to another using a tool included.
You can only use it on one computer at a time but its easy to switch if you have an internet connection on both computers.
