I was executing the commands on page 474 in Cisco book to be exact. Had been doing it to get familiar with the commands...Now i cant get back in to the router.... I had already done this a few times & not had any problems...PS i think i did a copy run star...Dont know if i really did that or not..Since i always do a write erase & then reload the router...

Anyone got any ideas...I dont recall placing any passowords, acutally i am damn sure about it...

Each time i try to logon i get a username prompt, after typing in just about anything there i get stuck @ the password prompt....

I get password denied messages, already tried password recovery, nah didnt work...

Anyone got any ideas short of reloading the IOS back on the router....

Need help thanx

You probably configured a "login local" on your VTYs. You can either console in (provided you didn't do it on con0 too...), or go to www.cisco.com and search for "password recovery". They'll tell you what you need to do.

I am not sure what type of router you are using, bu this link should help you out. http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/474/ Also make sure you are using an OS and program combination that will allow you to do the break sequence. If you have any more questions let me know.

thankx for the response cwt007 & others i have that link already, but yur info is still appreciated. I did find the following link on Ciscos site...

http://ap1-sjc-001.cisco.com/SRVS/C...,Sxi=6,Case=obj(153)

If you backtrack out of the link it will take you to the main page, so far looks like a good option to try, but for the sake of not messing it up anymore i am going to get the script looked @ for more opinions...

Btw i have a 2500 router..Wish me luck...

i ll post later on in the day if i succeeded or not. Hope i do , God willing that is...

I m outta here, time to go do more config...

Everyone here has locked them out of a router by doing something stupid at one point or another. If you're going to be in a hurry and not think everything through, or you're not sure of the possible ramifications of your changes and you can accept the downtime (which will be shorter than a password recovery), try using my favorite of all commands:

reload in 10

If you lock yourself out, wait 10 minutes and the box will reload the unchanged startup config. If you don't lock yourself out cancel the pending reload with "reload cancel".
