| Hi friends,
I got 2 job offers from different companies .
1st co. is an ISP in which they will be having high end cisco AS , switches , routers & PIX firewalls.i will be the 2nd cisco engineer over there.
2nd co. is cisco premier certified partner.there are allready 6 or 7 cisco engineers.
Any advice which could be better i.e i can improve my skills there and learn more day by day .

| i think its always better to be at ISP's, you always get a chance to learn a lot,
where in the world you gota learn abt cisco Cache engines.....except ISPs...
2ndlly most of the ISP's are multi-platform
based (here in Pak they are, dont know abt others), so its a good chance to work around diff vendors equip....

| Actually, IMO, I would prefer to take the Cisco Premier partner company. If there are already 6 or 7 certified engineers on-site, think of how easy it would be to get a Cisco question answered. This type of environment could become a great learning resource. And then, when you move on, I believe you would have a better rounded skill set to show to your new employer.
On the other hand, because there are more engineers, there may be less Cisco infrastructure work to actually be done. At which, you would acquire less hands on experience. If I were you, I would begin to ask detailed questions as to the specifics of the infrastructure and exactly what role you would be filling. Make sure to ask about future projects and what type of seniority you would have in them. Make sure you have a good understanding of both, and then make an educated decision.
Hope this helps... | |

| Haseeb u r really lucky to get such good offers from different companies....well in my personal opinion i think u should go with the Cisco Premier partner company....U can get friendly with those Cisco engineers very fast b'coz they r few in numbers and when the atmosphere gets friendly it becomes a kingdom of knowledge...u can get to learn new things from them in a friendly manner and i'm sure u'll progress more in that place...Wish u all the best...By the way i'll be approacing for my Switching exam on 20th of this month...any tips or material u can provide me which can be useful for me will be appreciated...and the last thing is that u hav mentioned that u studied from Pakistan these Cisco certifications....from which institute did u do ur Cisco courses...is it CTTC? i'm enrolled there...Take care..Kumar | |

| I had taken classes from Lahore in Corvit systems . They are very good and they have i think so more then 6 CCIE . You can take classes from there . Their website is
www.corvit.com .
For switching exam learn each & every command from bookIread karen webb book . Plus 1 more thing i did not got even a single question from HSRP & Security . But you should go through them may be they ask you . Apart from this if you will go for a job interview they will ask you hsrp & security related questions and these will help u at your job also.
Good luck | |

| For building your skill set, I don't think there's anything better than working for a Cisco Partner simply because you're exposed to a wide variety of products for use in a wide variety of situations. But I would get some particulars first. It's very easy for a company to become a premier partner (you have to have 1 CCNA and 1 CCDA, plus a sales guy.) As a result there are plenty of premier partners around who don't do anything except set up 1700s for an internet connection for a mom and pop store. It's just not very exciting work and you'd probably be better off giving it a miss if this is the case. But with 7 other engineers I guess they're likely to be a little more advanced than that. Still, I would check to see what kind of projects you would be working on first.

| Well i had accepted the job of ISP because i am hired from another cisco premier certified partner to an ISP . That isp is having 4 5300AS ,1 3640 router
1 2900 switch this is what i saw.Apart from this they are saying that they will install now PIX firewalls , unix/sco unix(may be other devices bcoz still networking is going on).And the company which is sending me to that ISP they have 10 cisco engineers . all are having different speacialization . They said that if i get some problem in the network they will be there for backup support. In other words i will work 80% for ISP & 20% for that partnet plus cisco partner also said that they will provide me books & necessary material to pass my other cisco exams

Your decission depends on what you want to do in the future. I you want to work in communications (routing, analizing, etc), ISP is the right decission. If you want a more wide field of opportunities the Cisco Premier Partner option would be better. Personally I like communications but I think routers jobs are more closed and you can learn more about communications working in other environments or in integrating projects. Otherwise, both offers are ok. Good luck in your next job.
