Hello all

I received my lab today, two 2501's-the lab came with 2 back to back cables (DTE - DCE) and
2 Unicom transceivers -2 adapters one (modem cab - 5 MODCM) and one (terminal cab - 500 DTF) and a 1900 switch

How should I initially plug this all together?

I should set up the clocking on one of the routers, which one? Should I hook up both DTE DCE cables to s1 s0 on R1 to s1 s0 R2…

Should I plug the Ethernet transceivers (AUI) to (AUI) on the routers together, or plug the Ethernet to the switch?

What about the 2 adapters one (modem cab - 5 MODCM) and one (terminal cab - 500 DTF) how should I navigate these?

On the HyperTerminal, why am I setting the stop bit to two instead of one?

What would be the best way to get this bad boy started?

Your help would appreciated

Two 2501's and a switch, here is a startup network.

You can use the HD-60 cables to connect the serial ports on the 2501's together to simulate a WAN connection. The trick with the cables is the one that is the 'DCE' is the side that requires you to enter the clockrate command. In global config, you can enter clockrate with a ? after it and it will show you legal speeds. After that the rest is just a standard point to point configuration.

As for the ethernet ports, connect them to regular ports on the routers, just put them in different VLAN's so they don't send CDP or routing updates to each other, looks like two separate networks on one switch. And there you go, two networks separated by a WAN connection.

From there you can do what you want with the configuration, OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, RIP and so on.

How much does the lab cost? and where did you get it from??
Did you buy it as a lab, or put it together yourself?
Tell me if I'm being nosey!

Thanks Depamo - You are burning at both ends! I have something you may be interested in - e-mail me - the switch does not have the enterprise software - I read there is software that will simulate traffic - true?

Mat - E-bay is where you want to shop -$ 1100.00 is what I paid for 2 routers - I already had the switch -($100) - just go to e-bay - there are some labs for sell in GB. Good luck in your quest?
