Author question concering trunk encapsulation

2001-01-29, 8:32 pm

I have a cat 5500 running LANE, and I want to create a trunk port, which trunk encapsulation should I use: isl or Lane? Can I use either one, or must I use Lane because I'm running LANE on the 5500. Please help and get back to me quickly? Thank you all very much

i know that the two can run in the same environment, but couldn't say for certain how to implement an ISL to LANE trunk port. i'm sure that for simplicity, troubleshooting, and consistency, Cisco would recommend LANE to LANE.

according to cisco:

Question: Can both ISL and ATM LAN emulation be used at the same time?

Answer:

Yes. Spanning tree will take care of blocking certain ports to prevent loops.

or the main site at http://www-1.cisco.com/openf/TechTi...networking/ATM/

hope this helps. good luck.
