Catalyst 6509 and Spanning

| Has anyone seen this problem?
I have a 6509 switch that whenever I span a VLAN to a port I experience flapping with the VLAN interfaces on the MSFC. This switch is running 12.1 code, and the switch itself is only at most hitting 15% utilization. The VLANs are configured as such to only have approximately 100 users on each. Broadcast traffic is a minimum since EIGRP is the only routing protocol configured. There is very little traffic going through this switch (at least broadcast traffic), and no other heavily utilized segments. I have the spanned port at 100 half, and as soon as I set the span, the MSFC starts going nuts, and before I know it my entire building is down. Imagine my surprise when I was just trying to capture a typical Broadcast baseline when all this happened @ 1:00 on a Wednesday afternoon. After I did a "show log", I notice that each interface must have gone up and came back down about 7 times. Quite strange I though. I contacted Cisco, and they stated that I must have a bad MSFC card, which I'm not buying. Everything on that switch works great until I attempt to span a VLAN. If I just span another port to a spanned port, there are no problems. I even spanned the most utilized segment, and I still had no problems. Any help would be appreciated. | |

| Are you trying to span a trunked port or an access port?

| I am trying to span an entire VLAN to an access port set at 100 half. | |

| What version of software are you running on the 6509. Also is the destination vlan the same number as the destination vlan? There are some instances of spanning tree loops with span. |
