Author Proxy/IIS/Exchange? Which would help for CCNP?

2000-07-23, 7:01 am

Hi,
Just passed ccna1.0 today. Was thinking where I could find ccnp forums and here it is. Thanks for everybody's efforts for keeping this great site going.

I have 1 more to go for MCSE4.0 and would appreciate it if someone could give me some suggestions on choosing the last elective which would also help me going to ccnp in the future.

Which 1 is better, proxey, exchange or iis?

Thanks,

Stay away from IIS.
This exam will retire on December 31 and there is no replacement for IIS4 exam. (There is no IIS 5 exam for some reason)

Exchange 5.5 is harder than Proxy 2.0 im my opinion. I took them all, including IIS4.0 which I though was an easy exam.

I really don't know which exam would help you for the CCNP.

Cisco exams are specific to Cisco products and material is very different from MCSE exams.

I am an Microsoft Certified MCSE and Cisco certified CCNA. I took IIS 4.0, but planning to take the Exchange 5.5 also. Exchange 5.5 is a better choice.
As for as CCNP is concerned All your MCSE knowledge would help you understand the subject.

Thank you So much. I understand that even though the 2 exams are all vendor specific, but still have some crossed knowledge, right? Just like TCP/IP would help in all most all networking exam. So, webmaster and ravi do you mean exchange or iis is that "crossed" with ccnp?

Thank you!

Another concern,
Is Proxy2.0 would help in getting more idea in network security for network design and studying ccnp?

Thanks,

I see nothing to be gained from the IIs (I know I took it), very little to be gained from Exchange, but perhaps a small benefit from Proxy, only because you will hear the term Proxy used in the Cisco world. On the whole the MCSE track has very little to do with the Cisco path, other then perhaps broadening your knowledge base.

Thanks, Yankee

I just ordered the books for Proxy (& the new BCMSN )yesterday after I checked the cisco web site again & got a little more idea. I will let you/other people who might have same concern know after I write the exam, hopefully soon.

Many thanks to you all.

I did not go the MCSE route at all, so i cannot comment on this that much, I really don't want to do that much Network Admin stuff on servers, so i am gearing myself to Networking. maybe i am denying myself of quality knowledge and will bite my tounge later, but as of now i just went network and web side of things, CCNA, network+, and I-net+. but from looking at MCSE books i think that Proxy would help only becuase it deals with the networking aspect of connections of you LAN to other internetworks.
My question to everyone is have you seen the CCIE's prep kit that came out by barewolf publishing i think. I read reviews that it is lacking for the CCIE written but perfect for the Foundation routing and switching. Is there any opinions on this??? thanks.

if you are looking for something usful, I would consider Exchange...almost every company that I know of has e-mail...I took IIS-waste of time-I have yet to use it...proxy...it really isn't that hard to set up and use. although if you are looking for some overlap that might be the one. IMO I think Echange would be more valuable...people are lost without their e-mail....just my two cents

If you want to be an NT administartor, go with exchange, very few people are certified, just because the course is 3 times as long as any other MCSE module.

Assuming you will continue the CISCO track, go for PROXY, very short and very easy, took that one myself, sice I only wanted to have the title...

cheers Exe.

Thanks for sharing your opinions, everybody:

Was not that efficient in reading Proxy since I was a little down (1.5 page/day), hope it won't disappoint you.

It's funny when I found out CCNA helps Proxy.

Again, I would share the info(how useful it would be) with you on my way there.

Good luck on everything!

Thanks for helping me make the choice. I passed the exam yesterday!

For people who have finished CCNA and are working on MCSE, you might want to think about taking Proxy. Also, if you like TCP/IP, take Proxy.
