Question for Yankee or ccnpwala

| Can you give me any insight on how the market is in the maryland/dc area for ccnp's? I am a career changer(math/science bkgd.) and got my first IT job a few months back working at a help desk for $35k. It is NOT cisco related at all but at the time I thought it was a good first step. I hope to have my CCNP knocked out by May or June. Also, any ideas on general salary conditions in the area also. Thanks. Any help is much appreciated.

| I haven't tested the job market but I have to believe with the number of gov't contracts around here it has to be pretty good. My current position, though it doesn't pay very well, offers such a wide variety of experience that I'm not looking around.
The certs alone won't get you the money in most cases, but the combo of certs and experience will.

BTW I think you did the right thing by getting your foot in the door with that current job, cuz it allows you to make the necessary contacts that will assist you later.
