doubt BCMSN, VTP advertisements
|
|
|
| Hi,
whenever a new switch joins the domain,it has to have a revision number = 0.
when this switch (client) asks for a advertisement from the server, the server sends the subset & summary advertisement (revision =5 just for example).
doubt: does the new switch which received the advertisement from the server changes its revision to 5 or changes it to 1
Regards

| I could be wrong, but it's my understanding that the clients revision number would be the same as the servers in this situation.

| Reamer you are correct.
Anytime a change exists in a VTP Domain; all participants will have the same revision number (highest).
For example, if you have a client or server with a revision number of 5, and you add a new switch to the domain that is less than 5, that switches VLAN configuration will update. It is very important to note that anytime you add a new switch to existing domain, that you delete the configuration, and reboot the switch: w/o rebooting the switch, the existing revision number will not clear. If you add that new switch without clearing the revision, and it is greater than any other switch on the domain (client or Server mode) it will update all the switches in the domain with that configuration - which you don't want. You will end up a nasty little mess!!
