| Hi everyone, I just passed the CCNA earlier this week, and now I am getting ready to prepare for the CCNP. Could you help me in terms of which one I should take first. And Also, I know this is a very elementary question.. but I think there are two tracks for CCNP? What are the difference?
Also, what type of books would you recommend? I heard and read some about CISCO press books.. are those I guess the best ones to prepare?
What about the Boson test? Has anyone tried?
I will greatly appreciate any help I can get towards my next step..CCNP.
Thanks, Zig | |

| What I've read and been told as well is to take the switching exam first. Yes the Cisco press books are prefered. Karen Webb has a book called Building Cisco Multilayer Switched Networks. Cisco press also just came out with a study guide this month for the CCNP switching exam. Hope this helps
Cheers and congrats

| I think that you refer to the CCNP testing tracks. Simply put you can take three exams (Routing, Switching, and Remote Access) or one monster exam (Foundations--a combination of these three). Then to get your CCNP you will need to pass Troubleshooting; to get your CCDP you will need to pass the Cisco Internetworking Design.
Y'know, you really ought to head on over to the following URL: (I can't believe how many folks seem to make it this far without at least one good, long visit.)

| Hey, aktribes and Lawrence, thank you for your inputs.
Aktribes, how about "Building Scalable Cisco Networks (BSCN)" I was thinking about going for this first... since when I took CCNA, I found out that switching was the weakest section for me..
Also, how is Building Cisco Multilayer Switched Networks E-Learning Edition (BCMSNe)? Has anyone taken this E-learning edition? What is the difference between E-Learning and regular one?
Thanks again for your help!

| Ziggy,
I would say choose what your comfortable with. If switching is your weak area, don't worry too much. From what I've read so far in the BCMSN books, its not leaps and bounds from what I've studied in the CCNA prep. There is more indepth information that builds upon the basic concepts, as well as more theory on building switched networks. Also consider, if switching was your weak area, you might want to build up on what you know already before you have to start from scratch in a couple of months so to speak.
