Cisco routers to prepare CCNP and CCIE
|

| Can anyone tell me how many and what kind of cisco routers I need for hand on experience to prepare the CCNP and CCIE exam.
Thanks,

I would check out www.fatkid.com. It's an OK site, and they have a hands on lab to help you study. The lab costs about $75 for 6 hours of work. They have pretty much everything you'll need for your CCNP or CCIE as far as routing and switching go. It's worth a look (and no I don't work for them). | |

| This question has been asked many, many times. And for good reason. Sometimes the answers seem wacky: either no routers (what?!), too many, or the wrong ones.
The book Get Cisco Certified and Get Ahead says that you need this stuff (paraphrased):
CCNP
-2 2501s
-1 DCE/DTE
-2 Ethernet tranceivers
-PC w/ NIC
-A switch of some sort (1900 to 5000)
-ISDN (real or simulated)
-Dial up connection
-Packet sniffer
-(Optional) Token Ring capability
-(Optional) FDDI capability
-(Optional) ATM/LANE
CCIE:
-All of the CCNP gear
-2509
-CAB-OCTAL-ASYNC (octopus cable)
-3620
-NM-1FE-TX (module)
-NM-1E1R2W (module)
-WIC-IB-U (module)
-Catalyst 2924XL-EN or Catalyst 5000
-(All routers should hold 11.3 Enterprise IOS or greater)
Dang!
Anyhow, a more accurate way to find out might be to look at the following WWW site. It is a respected practice lab for the CCIE at the University of Texas at Austin:
http://wwwhost.ots.utexas.edu/ccielab/lab_equipment.htm
There are a few good practice labs so be sure to look them up as well. The Indiana/Purdue one comes to mind.
