Question on Terminology
|
|
|
| People in the forum use terms like BSCN,BCMSN,BCRAN,etc. to describe the various exams. After looking at: http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/10...grams/ccnp.html I've noticed that this terminology is used for the coursework that's associated with the various exams. According to this page the exams would be called Routing,Switching,Remote Access, etc.
Is this correct or should I use the same terminology as I see in the various threads?

| Good question, my two cents would be to use them both interchangeably just too keep us on our toes. | |

| well when you book any CCNP exam with sylvan, for me anyway, they have used BSCN or BCMSN etc.
It that helps. Not too sure

| The latest Sybex book has it's 640-504 labeled:
"CCNP SWITCHING Study Guide"
Plus if Cisco isn't using the aforementioned titles....well, it just makes me think. It doesn't matter really, it's just that I'm bored today.

| BSCN, BCMSN, BCRAN, and CIT are the CCNP equivalent of ICND in CCNA. The official Cisco course is called ICND. The prometric exam is called "Routing and Switching", and the certification is called CCNA.
For these exams, the certification is called CCNP, the Cisco-authored courses are called BSCN, BCMSN, BCRAN, and CIT, but the exams themselves are called Routing, Switching, Remote Access, and Support. BSCN is a course. Routing is an exam. CCNP is a cert.
For CCNA it was simpler, because if you say CCNA exam, they know you mean the "Routing and Switching" exam which earns you the CCNA certification. But nobody says they're taking the ICND test. They take an ICND course to prepare for the CCNA.
However, techies are very fond of acronyms (it makes us sound much more intelligent than we really are ) so anyone would favor the cryptic acronyms over the more lucid exam names, Routing, Switching, Remote Access, and Support.
In common practice the terms are interchangeable. But if you ask Cisco, BCMSN is a course (Building Cisco Multilayer Switched Networks) that Cisco offers for an arm and a leg, not an exam you take at a Prometric testing center for $100.
