| I am looking for some advice from the forum on what cert route to take. I have just (25 Oct) completed CCNA and am trying to decide whether or not to take CCDA prior to tackling CCNP. My ultimate career aspirations are to do something involving network security.
Thanks in advance,

| As I said in a previous post, I think the CCDA skill set provides a strong foundation on which to build your NP skills. Try it, you'll like it.

| MadChef,
Thanks for the input, I was actually hoping you would reply to this one. It seemed logical to me to go CCDA then CCNP, I guess I was just looking for some affirmation from someone in the industry.
Thanks,

| i suggest going to CCNP then specialize on security if that's ur career choice. Security will include knowledge on PIX firewalls, access lists, TACACS+, RADIUS, etc....i'm not sure if these are covered in CCD* exams.

|
| So CCDA is more on security?
| |
|
| it is more towards network design.

| hi friends,
i find ccda is more to network design.
i find it interesting to study.u get to
know more of the enterprise design network
and it cover wide range of knowledge.
in fact i find ccda is much more interesting
than ccna. i find ccna quite boring to study
at first and need to memorize alot of commands.
in ccda thre is no need to memorize any commands but need to for network design concepts.i find it very interesting.and the
test is alot harder than ccna.

| please dont memorise this stuff, just make it part of you and have fun with it. all it takes its dedication, its our career. lets have some fun, it will all come together one day, when the six figures starts to come in. | |

Thanks for the input. I just noticed that the Security specialization track is going to FOUR exams on Jan 01, 2001. Just what I need I suppose, however, I think it will help to have a very solid foundation in basic network design before moving on to more advanced topics. That is why I thought CCDA first.

| Yes CCDA should be your preferred option before going to CCNP. |
