Yes, I have passed CIW foundations with 90%, 92% in n/working, 92% in Internet and 83% in HTML. Delighted and relieved to say the least!

I used Dummy book at first, but changed over to Bible book, because I felt that Dummy book was rather thin on the ground - I worked my butt off for 4 months.

I feel I have a great foundation of knowledge on which to build. I mean it gives you the ability to be able to atleast 'communicate' effectively with people not in your IT sector. I think that is important as one comes across educated. AND you can spot others who really don't know what TCP/IP is...you'll be surprised..I already checked out a top programmer being paid hugely, yet he could not help me with the definition of CGI and never heard of SSJS, of I/N/SAPIs!...so keeep going....

There is NO WAY I would have learnt as much as I have learnt through sitting designing sites by myslef..I would have never have had the same foundation perspective.

..the next objective is to get onto CIW Site Design and apply the skills practically to build up a portfolio.

Keep inspired guys, - and happy studying; R

You are right about DIY web design vs. getting the CIW certification. I have been studying the for the CIW Foundation cert and have already reaped the benefits on sites that I have been working on. CSS especially! The network fundamentals are also quite exciting. It definitely increases my confidence knowing these basics.

CIW Foundations is the glue that holds all the pieces together!
