I read from another forum that the Server Administrator exam also involves material from Internetworking and Security. The person who took the paper and failed advised reading the manuals for Internetworking and Security before trying the Server Administrator exam.

I am wondering if anyone here in this forum who have taken the Server Admin paper feels the same way.

There is one hell lot of reading for Server Admin alone... and with the necessity to read Internetworking and Security manuals as well,... I just can't imagine!!

Anyone who is curious about where I read it from may take a peek at:

I haven't taken the exam - but that series is the next in my sight. And, to be honest, I had sort of gotten the impression from looking over the syllabus that the first exam would also be the most comprehensive. I've actually decided to try taking the exams backwards, with the security exam first, then internetworking, and then the administrator exam... If I fail, you guys will know maybe this wasn't the smartest move... ;-P

On the flip side, if you do prepare for the administrator exam first, and if it does overlap the other exams significantly, your preparation for those exams will be that much easier...

Just got my security Bible yesterday (had to order it from the US... *sigh*). So maybe I'll rethink when I look more closely at the preparation required for that exam...

You have to read widely and know IPv6 very well.

I'd heard this. All things being equal, I feel strongest in this area - but I'll spend a fair while studying before attempting the test...

I thought it was the other way around. Security uses stuff from Internet. Pro and Server Admin. A friend of mine did say that Server Admin made more sense after taking Internetworking Professional.

You mainly have to know your Linux commands by heart. IPV6 isn't covered so much. That's more for Internetworking Professional. For example, you might have to know the two daemons in Samba (nmbd, smbd) and that kind of thing.

I purchased the full battery of questions on Cert 21 and it helped me a lot.

If you think that class sucks to take and pass, imagine teaching it.
