I have recently signed the full questions for CIW foundation, site designer and ecommerce. I have managed to pass the CIW foundation with 90% which most of the questions are some how similar to the questions, which can be found in Cert21.com

But last Friday I passed my Ecomerce where I only managed to pass by 2 more questions (78%), which is very thought. Even though I have practiced the questions lot of times and remembered the answers very well, but the actual questions didn't come similar to the Cert21, unlike foundation. I think you have to do extra homework to pass. Thought those questions, which found in the cert21 possess 40-60% similar to the actual exam but it is not that close fro Ecommerce. Therefore anyone using cert21 exam set questions for Ecommerce have to understand the questions and answers very well as the actual exam questions won't be exactly same as what it appears like Foundation questions. Any way, I found the cert21 is a good website to practice for the exam as I only sonly depend on their questions for the actual test as I don't even have a proper book to study. In another 2 more weeks time, I am going to site for Site Designer and hope that cert21 questions will be good enough to make me pass. I believe they can do!

Congratulations on both your passes.

Have a look on these sites www.ciwpage.com or www.myciw.com they may help with your limited resources.

I think that it is really bad to be certified by memorizing questions. The main point of getting certified is so you actally learn the concepts. People who pass certs by memorizing questions give the people who are serious about it a bad name. I hope that the cert 21 questions arn't good enough for the site designer so you will have to pick up a book and learn the information in it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why dont try the Certification Bibles they teach you the skills that you need in the real world.

Hmmm . . .passing the exam by memorizing questions huh ?

Interesting concept. Do you plan to share this technique with your next employer ? Or perhaps you will wait to the cruical moment when your new boss asks you to do something that is NOT in the form of a cert21 question ? Professional Certifications are a serious thing - Companies can quickly weed those people out, even if they are new hires. No offense intended, but please, for the rest of us, do not go into the TECH world as a " Paper CIW ". Do the work !!!

I fully agree with webwolf and Justin2112, We don’t want to see paper CIW's around, giving a bad name and reputation to all of us here. You have to learn something first and then get certified to prove your skills and not just memorize the questions/braindumps to get certified........

Hello Kzs:
I think cert21 can help you to pass Site Designer certification. I passed this examination a month ago by using cert21 only.

Right now, I use cert21 to study e-commerce certification. Thank you for tips.

Good luck.

Look, I understand from your point that one should not memorize but rather need to have good theoretical as well as practical knowledge to attain the certification in order to perform the industrial requirement.
In my early posting I did mention that I have memorized or practiced the questions few rounds in the Cert21(I am not advertising for them! but I got this link from their web site).
If one needs to pass the exam, I think with the modern testing concept by these exams, it will not be just possible to pass the exam with the practical knowledge or industrial experience. I am the one of the pioneer person to setup Ecommerce web site and with Database setting and hosted online connection few years ago. I also have very depth knowledge on the technical concept of how you can run the web site. Initially I was not bother about these certification but with the growing concern and respect for these certification has forced me to take these exam in order to attain a kind of respect in my line.
You need to know that my senior colleague who have similar experience like me or even more better experience then me, who recently sat in the Ecommerce exam failed by few questions. From there, I under that our practical knowledge will not help you much in the passing the exam. This is because they way they ask questions might be playing with their language on their question and not necessarily when one didn't get the answers doesn't really know the concept. You are required to drill the question on how they ask and how you should select the answers. It is pity that the present exam will not allow some one to just pass the exam even though one has the ability to setup and run the ecommerce web site and have done multi-million dollar project on Ecommerce.(because I have involved as I work in one of the biggest IT company in the world!). You need to know exactly how and what kind of questions that they actually ask.
That is the reason that memorizing the question is okay for people like me so that the type of questions or the way the question is being translated will not deceive us in failing the test.

Oh, okay. I see your point as well.

Whoa . . . a multi-million dollar ecommerce ??? You must have helped set up yahoo or amazon.com.

As an experienced Professional in the industry, you must realize that ecommerce laws change almost every month and that new technologies are being fed into the ecommerce world at an alarming rate. Would you agree ?

Also, as an experienced Professional, do you think you might GAIN knowledge that would aid your ' already experienced ' abilities from an actual in depth study of the course materials, rather than memorizing questions to pass an exam ? Do you think the CIW course has anything of value to offer, ( besides the certificate on the wall ) ?

This point hits home with me so hard, simply because I have spent hours and hours, days and days, months and months reading chapter after chapter ( sometimes 1 chapter many times ) to understand what it is the actual course is trying to teach me. The exam is the reward for all that hard work. Even having been in the industry for a long time myself, there is a lot I still don't know.

What multi-million dollar ecommerce site did you build ? ? ? Is there a URL ?

Thanks,

Justin

Hi Justin

I agree with the points on the Ecommerce Technology as well as the entire IT industry is evolving in to new changes in a speed that we are forced to follow or catch in order to maintain our competitive or professionalism! In reallity, even people like me or struggling to catch up. Your previous vast experience might not realy help you to catch up the latest Technology though you have certain advantage. Probably I were to have taken accounting or auditing, I wouldn’t’ be spending so much time studying for all kind of certification.!but any way I enjoy this IT profession as my carrier.

Obviously when you have some practical or industrial experience, it will be an advantage of studying some course material, which explains certain things, which can be only fully understandable when you have the actual practical exposure. Other wise no mater what you spend studying it 3 to 4 times, it is difficult to visualize certain things. CIW has its own merit on certain aspects as any IT certification and it does carry some level of recognition. Obviously learning the actual course material will have certain benefit then just memorizing the questions. Basically the Memorizing the questions and answers for my case was easier because I don’t’ just memorize the question without understanding except some questions.

Even at my level, there are so many things which I don’t’ know as I only specialize on certain things as initially I started as Network engineer not Ecommerce developer.

My present company, which I am working is Compaq. I just have encouraged another staff of mine to take this exam.

KZS---
Congratulations on the passes----I think!

The practice exams are supposed to be to see if you are ready to take the exams and to help expose your weaker areas! I agree with the other posters. For your own sake and everyone else's---LEARN the material. If you don't want to learn "all this", you are in the wrong field! (If we are misunderstanding you, please accept our apoligies!)

On a side note, I have also found the Certification Bibles to be VERY helpful. However, as I myself have discovered---there is no substitute for "lab time".

Good luck!

KZS,

wow you work for compaq huh? So were you the one who designed and are currently implementing their site??? If so I think that your company would be greatly disturbed to find out that you had to memorize questions to pass the e-commerce test. If you are implementing a multi-million dollar site, you would think that you would be familar with the current laws and standards, or is compaq not concerned with such frivlous things??

People work very hard for these certifications, regardless of how long that they have been in the industry. I am not trying to be mean in saying all of this but after working so hard to achive my certifications it really disturbes me to see someone coming in a making a mockery of the certifications by memorizing questions. You said that you get an understanding of the concepts by reading questions. But not in depth. There is a difference between knowing what somthing is and actally understanding it!

That's pretty harsh Wolf. Her goal may have been for the MCIWD which unfortunately requires the intense Foundations classes and she more than likely wont use that info as a web designer. Just be happy that she was able to pass the exam, everyone has their own agenda.

HarmonyXR----
What is the MCIWD and where can I look up info on it? I can guess from the initials, but I would like to check it out. I haven't heard of it yet. Thanks!

It's the Master CIW Designer designation. Go for it! I'm working on it now, I have to take all of my exams. Been studying the Foundations for 2 weeks and I'm still not comfortable. If you have anymore info, let me know.

HarmonyXR---

Well I feel stupid! I have not heard it refered to that way. I passed the inet+ / CIW Foundations exam in January! I am working on the site design and the web languages exams now. My ultimate goal is the Master Web Site Manager. That is a long way and alot of experience down the line though!
Good luck on the Foundations! If you haven't yet, consider investing in some good practice exams. If you know the material, they help you get used to the test environment and they also help pinpoint the weaker areas.

You might as well take the e-commerce and get your MCIWD as well, that's all you need now for that designation. Go for it!
