Hi Everyone

I'm new to this forum. Found it last night while searching for more information on the CIW certification.

I was recently enrolled in an iGen cert course (well, it was supposed to be anyway !). I just found out yesterday that iGen and the CIW cert would merge. The center where I was taking my courses never told us about this. So, now I have the option of getting my iGen cert and transferring it to a CIW associates cert as well as receive credit for the Javascript exam. Hmmm..sounds good eh..but wait. The courses I took did not include two of the vital parts of the iGen cert..ASP and Teams/technologies. So, I had anticipated self study for ASP and perhaps the other course but now I know that this cannot be done by Dec 31. I want to learn not memorize. The teams class is only offered through a training provider and that costs $900..I already paid close to $2K for the HTML, DHTML, and Javascript portion of the course.

After thinking about the situation, it would seem that I should just take the iNet, get both a iNet and CIW Foundations cert/credit and then work from there without having to shell out at least another grand for that last iGen class.

The training providers in my area are offering the CIW course for a little less than $6k...uhhhhh...I don't think so. I'm a good self learner and was thing that the self study books could get me through the rest of the exams that I may need.

Is there anyone here that is going from igen2ciw? Any perspectives?

Thanks for any input,

You can find more info regarding the merging of the courses at http://www.ciwcertified.com/news/Ne...=1&Article=372.

Between i-NET and the FOundations class, I'll vote for the i-NET one, since there is an abundance of materials out there from Coriolis, Sybex, etc. Just do a quick search at Amazon.com. Besides, if you're good at self-study, you will find this a quicker route.

Besides, COMPTIA has a longer history than CIW at this point in time.

Do a search on the other threads also.

I decided to take the iNet exam and go for automatic foundations cert that goes with it.

I think that you made the right choice. You get 2 certs for the price of one. Besides, you save BIG BUCK$ off the CIW materials which are still in need of major improvements.
