OK, well now I am getting a little annoyed.
I have come accoss questions on the practise exam that have different answers then in the Prometric Study Books. Examples are
In the prep exam questions there are 2 questions asking you about top level domain names.............One answers says the country codes ARE top level domains and another question and answer says they are NOT.

Now I know that accroding to Prometric they are NOT top level domains (for the exam I mean) but this is not my point.

Second example is I have now had 2 different questions referring the the <br> tag. One answer tells me it is a text-level tag and the other tells me it isn't.

This is so annoying!!!!. Yes I know I can get the right answer from the study book etc etc but the prep exam needs to be sorted to have the right answers according to the prometric study guides!.

You should feedback to Prometric about their guides to help them improve. Points to note:

(1) Overpriced texts
(2) Unprofessional presentation
(3) Mistake proned

I had the same experience with answers conflicting.....I am very frustrated right now.....have never worked so hard to do sooooo poorly!

My experience with CIW exams is that sometimes, the answers are meant to be a little vague, even having answers that sound plausible. I guess they are meant to trip.

I tripped out! I was thoughtful and looked for the subtle differences, read carefully through every question and went back through the entire exam when I finished. But some answers just didnt match anything I had studied. this is such a drag....

Here might be some good news for you. If you take the exam the second time round, you will be given a fresh pool of questions, mixed with some that you have seen previously.

You might be familiar with the new stuff, and just cross the border.

That's what i am hoping for.....I talked it over with my instructor right after the test....he thinks I have a good handle on this....so I am hoping with what we discussed as well as getting a fresh pool of questions...to cross the border and put this behind me. thanks for the encouragement.

I took the test today and will retake it in the morning....As I remember, the only top-level domains that were valid were .net and .org.....I will look more closely, but I don't remember seeing any country codes there. I will post and let you know before Friday if I get the question again. BTW...there is a box on each test question for comments...so I will make certain to bring this point up with them, if there are country codes listed in the answers...should I refer to the Prometric book or ICANN?

Country codes include .ca, .fr. etc.

Anyway, don't get too hangup on this, as it it not heavily weighted, concentrate more on the more important ones.

hacker:

its weird what you say about a 'pool' of questions..... I also understood that there would be a pool of questions that your exam selects from. The only thing is, when all of these other guys were posting 'practice' questions for the e-commerce exam, all of the exact same questions were in my actual exam.

I think the 'pool' is more of a 'puddle'.

Anyway good luck to you guys doing foundations, by the amount you guys are working on it, i'd say you will both pass easily.

Just relax in the exam and use common sence, but not too much, you know how these CIW exams are hehehe

All exams have a limited number of questions, therefore there is a pool of questions. They are taken from a bank.

They are constantly updated of course, so that will ensure the exam's integrity. I have been involved in helping draw up questions, especially for Beta exams (not CIW, but soon hopefully ), and the questions that are selected goes into the exam bank.

Some exams like Sair/Linux GNU tells you that the pool will be rotated each time you take the exam--in other words, you will not see the same questions when you take it again!

i dont condone posting exam questions on forums or anything, but i was reading the questions posted here and they ended up being from the actual exam. It was just weird that I had seen most of the questions before (and still made 3 silly mistake).

so what exactly are you 'into'? by the sound of ur u/n, maybe security?

You are right, I like security and administration. Am aiming for the CISSP (6 hour exam) and the CSE.

Security means knowing all the basic stuff *nix Administration, M$, Networking, and then more . Besides, this is the next big thing to come.... so Big $$$.

Thanks again, I bookmarked that one too.
I am currently unemployed (recently laid-off) from another industry...so it is very hard not to be in a hurry to get through this....any money will be a relief...good money? I just cant imagine what that would be like, but I am gonna try to find out very soon! ( = faithster

Just one question....please?
Could you rattle off a decent definition for a screen subnet firewall? I have yet to find one that sounded like any of the possible answers on the exam...maybe your own version would shed some light?
Mr Security?

The Prometric Books................I am am sure they say that country domains are not top level domains..............oh I am confused and although I am not hung-up about it I would like to know for the exam which is less then 24 hours away!.........

After I get through the exam I will drag back here and let you know how it all went...in the meantime...here's what brainbuzz.com had to say about top-level domain names:
A Domain Name is made up of three parts: www.brainbuzz.com
www – server/host name (specific)
BrainBuzz – registered company domain name
com – domain category, country code or top level domain (general)
Some companies further divide their DNS by department, workstation, location...
Top Level Domain (TLDs) names:
com – commercial/company
edu – educational institutions (universities)
gov - government (US)
mil – military (US)
org – organizations, clubs, associations, non-profit...
hope this helps...faithster
net – network sites, including ISPs
int – international organizations
Two-letter country codes (ca, uk, au, ch, jp...)

I think you maybe right. I remember in a practice exam for foundations it mentioned about 7 domains asking which were top level. I think i got it incorrect because i choose contry level domains as well as the generic ones.

I can't remember getting a domain question in the exam, hopefully you wont either There are always questions that are worded wrong, thats why i think i was cheated out of getting 100% on that exam.

eg. There is a question about <p>. It asks something about will it work without a closing bracket. I am sure it will. Then there is a question about <br> and <p> and asking the difference. The answer is that <br> doesn't require a closing bracket. Like what a contridiction, but oh well, thats just how it is.

Good luck for tomorrow to both of you...... I am almost certain both of you will pass with flying colors!! As soon as you get through the first 10 or so questions you'll think "damn this is easy!!" ))

btw shareen, I hear you can get cheap import cars in NZ.... mmmm GTO's, GTR's, STI's

A screen subnet firewall is really a DMZ (Demilitarized Zone).

It allows protection that conceals the internal network from the outside world. It also allows secure access to the Internet from within an enterprise network.

TLDs can either be gTLDs or ccTLDs. ICANN defines these terms, not Prometric. Prometric administers the exam.

I hope you guys are not being confused by second-level domains and subdomains.
