Hey everyone, Just wanted to let you guys know that i took the application developer exam today and i failed. Most of my questions were syntax specific, i hardly had any other type of question, so please pay attention to the specific's in the book. I plan to take the test again sometime in the next 2 weeks, this time i will be ready!!! If anyone has any study material i would really appreciate if you can pass it my way. Good Luck to all who are doing exams soon...

I'm planning on taking th exam this Saturday. The one guy said it was more theory than syntax. You seem to indicate it was more syntax. Have you taken the Perl exam? What advice do u have for me? I used to teach Foundations, JavaScript, Perl, and have taught the Perl/CGI portion of this class. It seems like so much material for 1 exam. Stay with it, you'll pass the next time!

sblair:

Hi there. Did you have to show your certificate of attendance in the Foundations course to get the CI as part of the requirements (among a few more of course)?

i don't really understand ur question. if ur asking me how i got ciw ci then i had to pass foundations, sign the agreement, and apply thru prosofttraining.com. i use to work for them so they made sure i met all qualifications. i'm forgetting exactly how i got the ciw ci but i believe the 3 things i mentioned got me the title. go to www,ciwcertified.com and ask them. hope this helps. did u take app. dev. yet?

Strange, one of the requirements is that a Certificate of Attendance be given. I guess that this is not a requirement for those with more than a year's of experience. I didn't read it more carefully .

if you mean sending in the sheet which shows you passed foundations at a specific site on a specific day then i believe i did have to supply that in order to get ci. what exactly do u mean by certificate of attendance? r u looking to become a ciw ci? again, i can't remember all i needed to do but the ciwcertified.com site will help. r u from outside u.s.? just curious.

The CIW info states that the i-NET is not a substitute for CI status. An instructor must still take the Foundations exam. If the instructor has less than a year's experience teaching, he also has to attend the Foundations course and as proof, show a Certificate of Attendance in addition to passing the exam.

I'm from outside the US. I never bothered to update my info ever since the switch to vBulletin.

Thanks John, for the support. I am going through all the books again and all the example code in the books again. The ASP portion of the exam was a breeze for me. I have developed some sites in ASP before so those questions were a breeze. The CGI and PHP is what got me. I have to study those more, back and forth until i puke (pardon my expression). I will make sure next time i pass this exam. Well good luck to all of you planning on taking the exam.

Sblair -- I have not taken the perl exam yet. I have not even taken the foundations or the site designer non of them, this is my first cert. The reason why i did that was because i work at a hosting company and have to support cgi and sometimes PHP, you don't have to get this intesne when troubleshooting code but it helps if you know the syntax. I would suggest reading more CGI and PHP stuff, that was the majority of questions i got. Keep in mind everyone's test will not be the same you may get allot of Theory questions. Hope this helps.

Thanks

puke that's the expression needed here!

I know that it would be hard but I think this exam needs to be revisited.
Three of our classmembers failed today all on the cgi part.
I also put a questionmark with the construction that failing one exampart kills the whole exam and you need to do it all again.
For now I passed Perl but I don't trust the cgi to be in my pocket.
I have rescheduled my exam for next week on wednesday and hope for the best

john

did u take the exam? how was it? i'm taking it tomorrow (8/4). i've heard to study theory over syntax and vice versa. what do u think? how was the asp part? having passed perl was the perl/cgi and php stuff hard? how hard did u study? sorry so many questions, just curious. i'll let u know how it goes for me.

No I haven't done it yet but three of my fellow student have.
I will post a braindump on my site. I hope begin next week for my colleges need to make a dump first.
My exam will be on wednesday and I have heard that our teacher had the opinion that if you passed Perl than the cgi part wouldn't be so hard but that wasn't true.
The guys failed all on the cgi with an avarage of 50% not so good hé?

so keep in mind all the perl things and good luck today.

I passed App. Dev this morning. I found the Perl/CGI part much easier than DSP. Having passed the Perl Fundamentals exam and having taught that class made the Perl/CGI portion of App. Dev. much easiet. Had I not taken Perl Fund., the Perl/CGI portion would have been scary. I thought the DSP portion was tougher but that's not where my experience lies so what should I expect. I studied hard for this exam and found it tough. My advice would be to take Perl Fundamentals b4 App. Dev. But, keep in mind that Perl Fundamentals requires alot of studying too but it focuses on 1 technology so its much more manageable. After passing Perl Fund. then comb the App. Dev. chapters in detail. This is what I did and it made it easier for me but don't get me wrong. I wasn't sure if I was was gonna pass once I ended the test. My advice:
1) take Perl Fund.
2) really know the App. Dev. books

Best of luck to all!

How long did you have to wait before getting the CI once the application was submitted?
