| hai BootData,
Where are u from??? The exam fee for all CIW exams are RM475. I dun know other South East Asean country. I do not buy any CIW books, i just download the cramsession, examnotes and the notes from ddd. All the notes are suffient to pass. I also download the exam objectives list from the CIW site and find the information for each section. If u buy the original book, it will cost u around USD 399. For me, i would like to do in the hard way rather the easy way. Furthermore the currency exchange rate are very high in SEA. Some of the ppl buy the book from the ebay, but it sound likes not secure enough. Anyway, my way is the money saving method.....hehhehehe.. I hope u pass the exam in future.

| congrats cty_9 !!!
so what r u going for next?

bootdata: use the questions and discussions that have been posted in these forums, i found them to be the most valuable source of info that i could find (thats if you plan to do it without the courseware).

| im sitting here waiting for 2 VB books to come from the U.S as im going to continue my study with MCSD. I'm just going to take a couple of days break while im waiting. Maybe do some more reading on XML.
I am waiting for the verdict of a job i applied for, its with the government so it will be at least another 3 weeks till i get an interview (its already been about 4). Its going to be a strictly development poisition so I so hope i get it.
It seemes everywhere around the world the job market is slowing. It really doesn't seem that bad here though, its just really competitive, but there seem to be plenty of positions.

| ddd, are you using the Howard Hawhee book?
it's quite good...and seems that lots of people are using it for the VB exams...
|
| yes bootdata i do have the hawhee book, but I am only using that to follow the curriculum. I want to properly learn advanced VB rather than just the way the MCSD wants you to know it. After I read all of my other books then ill go through the
Hawhee book again to polish up on what the exam wants and then take both of the exams.
I have already read john smileys first book and peter wrights objects book. Amazon is sending me Smileys OOP and Database books.
I think its going to take a few months to complete the whole thing though as I also want to do CIW app dev.
what have u got planned for after CIW?

| Hi bootdata and ddd,
I'm going also on the track of MCSD but I want to know what material should I use and really need some advice from u
Can u help me plz
| |
|
| a few questions:
1) Are you taking the VB track?
2) Do you have much experience with VB?
I am taking the VB track and when I started I didn't even know how to write loops or what arrays are. Actually I pretty much knew nothing but I wanted to learn VB and I thought the best way to motivate myself was to do a cert. I am concentrating on both learning VB properly not just passing the cert so its going to take a bit longer.
If you seem to be in the same boat as myself, I'll list the course of action I took.
Read 'Learn to program VB' by John Smiley. Then 'Learn to program VB Databases' by John Smiley' and now I am on to 'Learn to program VB Objects' by john smiley. I also have the WROX book by peter wright called 'beginning VB Objects'. After I finish this book, I will go through the Howard Hawhee book which covers both VB exams. I will probably then purchase the transenders for it and go for both exams with only about a week between the two exams. I guess after that I will concentrate on the other 2 exams one of which is core and I may pick the VBA exam as my elective. I'm not sure yet, I my go with an SQL exam.
Also I have just purchased the e-book by Cassie Simons (how to pass your MCSD quickly and easily) which deals mainly with study techniques and related material. Her site is www.examsareeasy.com. Also check out the MCSD forum on this site.
