has anyone else here ordered books from a guy off ebay with the email addy ciwbooks@yahoo.com? I ordered 2 sets and payed the money but haven't received them or any replies to the emails i have sent him.

What should I do?????

I payed through paypal so they have his details, I'm not sure if its just a delay and he hasn't checked his mail, or if he's taken off with my money.

That is illegal; a bid is a contract. See the following sites for redress:

http://crs.ebay.com/aw-cgi/ebayisapi.dll?crsstartpage
http://www.squaretrade.com/cnt/jsp/...mcat2&stmp=ebay
http://pages.ebay.com/help/community/investigates.html

Hope this helps.

thanx a million, for that............
I am going to call him at about 2am, since it should be about midday over in the u.s (i think)

if he doesn't answer I will then go through with the fraud form with both ebay and paypal..........

He had all positive feedback when i bought the items, but since then, I have checked and he has 3 negetive feddbacks that weren't there before

I hope it is just a delay, as he replied to the other negetive feedbacks saying there was a delay, but they haven't replied back saying they received the items

anyway, thanx again for your help

Some of these auction guys have a business going, and may have a lot of email to deal with. Send hom one last mail and cc abuse@ebay.com and that should get his attention. Sellers dislike getting negative feedback for obvious reasons, so maybe this might get his/her attention. Best of luck to you.

I ordered 2 sets of book from him on June 28th and I haven't heard a word from him - I have his name and address - but no phone number. I did not do it thru Ebay, unfortunately! If any one has any advice, I would love to hear it! The scary thing is that he no longer has any auctions going at all on Ebay so I hope he didn't take off with the money and leave town! I am hoping that this is NOT a $200 learning experience for me!

i just tried to call him but realised my girlfriend activated call barring for international calls.......

so i have to wait till tomorrow morning to remove the barring and call him.

from the number of people that haven't received their books, i guess he has done this on purpose...........

even if i get the US$200 from ebay, i will still be short another 100

If this person sold you something, he/she has a legal obligation to either furnish you with the product promised or to refund your money. Contact ebay via the above links to start legal action against him. there is no way I would settle for being screwed out of 200 bucks.

since u didn't go through ebay but payed through paypal, you can still fill out a fraud form through paypal

they will apparently investigate all claims

try that squaretrading link as well

I did a little checking on this message board and saw that "ciwbooks@yahoo.com" is also known as "overlord007@yahoo.com" and has posted his spam on this board under the name over "overlord". He has posted about 9 times advertising his CIW books for sale.

elainem47: did u try to call him?

I will try in the morning, I have sent another email and hopefully he has just been delayed and will reply this time.

I have sent more than 5 requests for the books or a refund, so hopefully he will reply this time.........

while on the subject, does anyone know where to get ciw books second hand or cheaper?

To get them from prosoft would cost about AUS$800 per module, which is like a full weeks pay!!!

grrrrr

Hi, everyone, I've also ordered books from ciwbooks a few weeks back. I paid him via Paypal and I still haven't got even a tracking number from him. I tried sending him emails, but he deliberately does not reply to my emails. To prove this, I got my husband to send an email asking about something else as a new user, and ciwbooks replied to him within the hour. So he's just deliberately avoiding replying to his buyers.

Yes, overlord007@yahoo.com is his other email address. I found out from the web that ciwbooks(his real name is Chris Parkinson) graduated from Mentor High School in Ohio and also, that he has worked for Verio.com during the past few years.

Please forward his phone number to me, as I'm in the US, and I'll contact him personally. You can contact me at "cecilmathew@hotmail.com".

What more can I do to get him to send the books(provided he has them)?

Help!!!!!!!!

i ordered from him via ebay a week ago and paid through paypal. He responded to a few emails at first but has not responded in 5 days or so.

2001-07-10, 12:09 pm

Why don't all of you guys email the services that you paid him through. A seller that is getting so many complaints should certainly be worthy of investigation. It is starting to look as though he is a wholesale scammer.

2001-07-10, 12:14 pm

this is getting ridiculous!

at first i thought no one would reply to my post, now we have 5 people (including 1 who emailed me from ebay) who have had problems.

I have already sent an investigation through ebay.

I will do the same through paypal, squaretrading, fraud.org and anyone else if I dont get a reply in the next day or so.

I gather he will be checking his email and maybe these posts, so hopefully it was a delay and he will reply.

Otherwise if we all make complaints, this should be resolved soon.
Randy

2001-07-10, 12:33 pm

I agree. If it had been just one person, it may have been just a misunderstanding, but this is looking suspicious. You guys may want to get together and email a letter of complaint and it may lend more weight to your claims.

I've been hosed by this same person at eBay on July 5th. I payed via PayPay, sent him 5 emails in 7 days and not a word. I'm out over $500 and I ain't happy. Boys and girls it time to get organized and push this thing forward. This dude is either unwilling or unable to honor his comittments. From what I can tell from all the posts, we are talking in the $1000's of dollars easily.

I won an auction from CIWbooks@yahoo.com and I haven't paid yet. I don't think I will until the other people get their stuff. $500 is a lot of money to lose. He contacted me and I ave not eard from him since.

whatever you do, dont pay the f****r

I have filed complaints with everyone (paypal, ebay, fraud.org) and I am going to contact the police department in OH. I have talked to a lady from the NFIC and she is going to start an investigation and contact the police.

If anyone knows the best way to contact the local Police dept in his state, could u let me know. I am from australia, so should i call directory assistance or is there somewhere on the web.

I am also going to contact his employer if he doesn't contact me soon. I am not going to stop, so if any other victims out there have any info, plz let me know.

thanx to everyone for their support.

This information was sent to me by one of our mutually "ripped off" friends. I have not verified this information but I'm putting out there anyway. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do.

wow!! hehe

when a group of people are determined, watch out............

i got his phone number from ebay, if u go to the fraud complaint form, it gives you an option to see his contact details and it sends them to u via email........

i have already contacted quite a few places in Mentor outlining our problem

www.cityofmentor.com

i will be calling the police department listed on that site as well.

chris, if you're reading this - it would probably be best if you refund the money.

You do realise you will be charged with fraud if you're caught. If it is a big enough case you may go to jail.

Just think about that......... its not worth it. We can go a lot further and will be forced to if you don't take action soon.

Well, Well, Well

I went to www.classmates.com and put in the name Chris Parkinson. Only one hit came back and it was our "bud" in Mentor Ohio. Class of 1996. That would make our boy about 23 years old. Just thought everyone should know any additional information that is available.

Hi, everyone,

I just thought that all of you should know that ciwbooks is no longer a registered user of eBay.
mlkinsey

2001-07-11, 9:26 pm

I'm compiling a master email listing of all the people I have had direct contact with and that have been "touched" personally by this situation. I have about 10 to 12 differant individuals on this list and will be sending it out by this time Thursday. If you would like to be added to this list just give me a shout and it will be done. On the flip if you don't want your address out there or updates, that's kool to, no problem. If you have any info or updates (anything at all no matter how trivial), let me know and the entire listing will know by the end of that day. Nopefully, we can all benefit from this collectively. I just simply don't like getting burned and not at least taking some kind of action.

2001-07-11, 9:43 pm

i sent through an investigation via eBay and they sent back telling me he isn't a registered user anymore.

Can u add me to the list if u haven't already? dashka@bigpond.com

thanx everyone

I'll still waiting from paypal and squaretrade..........

Hi, everybody,

For those of you who haven't completed 30 days since your transaction with "ciwbooks", please remember to take printouts of the Auction Item Page for your item, as well as a copy of "ciwbooks" Feedback page. These are required in order to file for insurance at eBay. After 30 days, you'll lose this webpage from your system, and eBay requires that you provide a printout copy of this page to claim for insurance.

Hi Everyone,
I am sorry we are all meeting under these circumstances. I have already e-mailed Detective Strauss and PayPal. As far as eBay goes, it sounds like they only want to be contacted as a last resort. But I will complain anyway. Just want my money back, like the rest of you. What a loser! Bet he still lives at home with Mommy and Daddy.
I can't thank all of you enough (especially Elaine and Lesiley). To be honest I am glad I am going through this with a group and not alone, I would definitely be at wits end by now. I wish this upon no one. I hope it was well worth it for him. It will be worth it for me to drive to Ohio and see this punk$#@*&^% go to jail. If anyone cares to get in touch you can reach me at lcarabello@refco.com.

Hey Everybody I am soo Sorry to hear what this guy has been doing to you. This is just flat out horrible. I hope you all slam the lid on this SOB.

Secondly I would like to try to offer you a solution to your book needs. I am an Instructor for Executrain in San Diego. We are a CIW Authorized Training Provider. We have the ability to sell CIW books to students who dont take classes. In fact any CIW ATP Has the ability to sell books to students who dont take classes. I wanted to suggest to you all that you contact your local ATP when this is all through and purchase your books through them. That way at least your orders will be processed through a reputable dealer like New Horizons, or Executrain, or LearnSoft.

The cost will porbably be about the same.

Good luck and Cheers.

We're still waiting for refund, the poilce are investigating and are about make a move.

We have heard back from him, but who knows.

All know is that I wouldn't like to be going to court and facing charges nd a possible sentence for so little money. Well its not so little to the people who've lost it, but its little when considering a possible jail term.

Hi Everyone,
I finally received my books from Chris Parkinson. They are brand new and I have checked the cd's to make sure they work. I do hope he makes good with everyone.
He is not off the hook with me as of yet. I will be sending an e-mail to him as well as eBay and PayPal.
There is no doubt in my mind that he was using a "distributor" and if that is the case fine, but he should have had those books in his possession before selling them to everyone and if he did not have them and was waiting for them he needed to disclose that to the buyers (us).
I'll be in touch.

Hi,

Regarding "ciwbooks" or should I say Chris Parkinson, I think you should know that he is a CIW Instructor at one of the CIW Authorised Training Provider Locations, which is how he gets access to the CIW books.

Anyway, I've also received my set of books. So did three other people. Well, everything will work out for the rest of the buyers too. I'm sure that they'll either get the payment refund or the books in another two to three weeks, as Chris is in a lot of trouble at the moment due to this.

This was a long wait, and it took a lot of effort from all the buyers to actually get Chris to finally take us seriously. Thank you, Mike, Larry, Elaine, Liz, Todd and all the others who have worked very hard for this. I would like to thank everyone for their support, help and unity.

Please let me know if I can do anything to help anyone of you too.
