This is my first post. I have been reading the tips and things from other people regarding the tests and everything has been very helpful.
I was wondering if anybody knows of any books they can recommend that can prepare for the site designer course other than the Prosoft books.
I attempted to buy the books on e-bay, but after sending the money order I never received the books. And the self-study books from prosoft are still a bit high.

Any advise would be helpful. thanks

Sounds like you got taken for a ride!!!

Let's see...

First you need to know HTML basics so pick up a book for that, Sam's 21 Days or even an online tutorial and then my favorite $10 Hip Pocket Reference...

Next you need something for CSS. Again if you use an online tutorial you can pick up one of the O'Reilly reference books, but I wouldn't really try learning from them.

I used www.webmonkey.com to pick up the graphics and design process. The design process stuff is where Prosoft uses different terminology.

Make sure you know the different programs, Flash, FP2000, etc.

Get the study guides from here (http://www.examnotes.net/?action=te...-410&work=notes) and at Cramsession (http://cramsession.brainbuzz.com/cr...iw_Site_Design/).

Then use some of the various practice tests out there and stay in this forum because people are always posting stuff (and check out the history to the creation)!

Good Luck!

Good advice SasiSan!

I also highly recommend a book specifically about web graphics - webmonkey is great for a lot of stuff but I don't think they get in depth enough about compression / color theory. I'd try one of Lynda Weinman's (of Lynda.com) fabo books on web graphics;

I actually found a wonderful book about web graphics at CompUSA in their clearance books section - it was about three years old, but graphics theory hasn't changed that much in the last couple of years; yes, apps change but not the principles behind basic jpgs, gifs, png, etc.

Also,

On the eBay thing - is is very rare that a seller would do something like that but you don't have to be a victim; go to eBay's SafeHarbor section under fraud protection:

http://pages.ebay.com/help/community/insurance.html

Don't give up on eBay as a source for great books on site design - cheaper than Amazon or BN.com; just watch out for seller feedback ratings!

Hope this helps -

I forgot about that ScottishFlower! You know, the colors always confused me so I created my own HTML page explaining it and now it is so clear to me. I don't know if the page will help others, I actually loathe my site design and have been working on redesigning it... But here is the link to the color page incase it will help someone:

http://www.sassysolutions.com/LearnIT/colors.htm

If you see the SiteDesigner Exam there -- don't trust it too much. It was for a course after their first class so it is the most basic of stuff.

Thanks for the advise. I will get the HTML in 21 days book.

Are there a lot of questions on the test regarding FrontPage 2000, I don't really use it all that much. I usually use Homesite.

I didn't see a single question! But you should still download the 30 day demo and play with the program...
