Hi everyone ...

I'm new here, so let me introduce myself. I'm Amber and I'm currently attending a Site Design class and also studying for the Foundations exam at the same time. Probably not the best thing in the world, but I had no choice. I paid $5,000 for tuition to a tech school so I could get a CIW. As soon as I finished the Foundations course, the school closed down due to financial difficulty. I couldn't get a penny of my money back. Fortunately, another school offered to train me for just the cost of books (Oh, another $250). Classes just started and the entire course is a mere two weeks.

I guess I feel like it's just not enough time to really learn much. I realize that the bulk of it has to be done on my own time, but just the idea that the training will be so short sort of discourages me. I mean, what did I pay $5,000 for in the first place? For that amount of money, I will receive a grand total of a month and a half's worth of formal training. I really just want to be confident about what I'm doing, etc.

I hope I've made the right decision ...

Man!

I just sent you are great message of encouragement to your other post... Basically telling you to post here because we all love helping people.

In essence it stated: Go for it -- to prove to yourself that you have the stuff that it takes to get a job in this business... You will learn a LOT preparing for this certification, information that will help you in the real world. Now that I think of it, after the Foundations, all the information you learn you will use (unlike some of my other certifications where you just memorize stuff).

Was it the Computer Learning Center (they just did the same thing out here to a lot of folks)? Just because you will only have two weeks classroom time, does not mean you can not continue to study and prepare for the exam!

You can do this! Most of us are learning without the benefit of classes so you will have to share you knowledge

Sorry to hear of your situation!

Get what you can out of your courses and remember to consult your accountant. You may be able to recoop your money as a tax write off for educational expenses.
