| hi all..
i've been wondering of the real-world value of CIW cert. not too many employer(s) know this kind of cert.
my question is: is it worth the $+time to get this cert?

| I have two thoughts. One is that the momentum for CIW will make it known. There is no other Internet Certification. However, after many years in this business I have come to realize that programmers do not embrace the certifications as the other side -- the 'engineers'.
Secondly -- this certification is worth it for you. It lets you measure yourself against the current mark. Are you as good as you think? Better? It also gives the newer folks a place to start in learning. I personally love using the exams to focus my training because it gives me a place to focus rather than trying on my own to figure out if I know enough, it pushes me to know more. I have been teaching web design for years, my stength being more the back end programming. When prepping for the Site Designer I had to learn a lot about graphics and style sheets. I am far better for the new knowledge. (but I still don't like the design end much!)
Just my two cents. | |

| hi SasiSan,
still having doubts about spending my time in CIW cert....to be honest, i've been interested on this one for quite sometime now...
most likely i'll take the E-commerce stream...
i understand that the manual/guide from the vendor is not available for public?
thanks | |

| It depends on your focus. It looks like you are chasing a wide variety of certs, only you can decide which one you will enjoy the most. Is the MCP in networks or a MCSD certification?
If your focus is internet programming, this does give you somewhere to focus. I stick to that because there are just SO many ways you can get pulled. Think about that newer individual trying to decide which book to pull off the shelf in the bookstore. How incredibly overwhelming. Following this cert they would need to learn HTML, CSS, Graphics, Networking and then E-Commerce. Even the Enterprise track is in about the same order you would learn it -- JavaScript, ASP, Databases, etc...
Check out this site. I think they have online courseware. I am not entirely sure the CBT's are worth the price. As an instructor I got there slides so I didn't need the CBT.

Besides the cram here, there is also one at brainbuzz.com. And the history of others comments here is a lot to use...
Good Luck on which ever certification you go for first!!! | |

| I agree with Sassi. What is your focus. Once you have your focus then you can plow into a cert track. The Ciwcerts are tailored for each major sect of skills, programming, Srv/Net ADmin, and Design. The cets are worth their weight in gold, however like any cert you must have the performance skills to back it up. I think Sass phrased it a "a measure of your worth."
Invest the time in CIW, or in MS certs, or Oracle has some developer certs what ever Cert matches your

The books are gold for passing the tests because the tests are written off of the cirriculum in the book directly. Prosoft also has some real good CBT's that are great when coupled with the book.
It is worth your time.
