| I got interested in Web Design. Learnt HTML.
Tried out Flash. Need some suggestions on what exams I should take to get ahead in this industry.
I want to know what to start learning now as I'm getting tired of HTML.
Should I learn Databases, Ecommerce or what?
Eventually I want to change jobs from being an English teacher to being in the Web industry.
Any help would be appreciated. | |

| If you're looking for exams, you're on the right track with CIW. Do some research into programming/web certifications.
I would recommend becoming familiar with PERL, XML, Java, and e-commerce in general. Have some web site examples you can show to prospective employers. They want experience over a diploma. | |

| thanks for the advice, but don't really want to get into programming again had enough of that at uni, but is it absoluty necessary. Was thinking about learning databases to add to the web sites.

| It's better to know as much as possible about the field you are looking to get into. The various languages would be invaluable. Oracle has some serious database certs. Go to amazon.com and look up database administration. Tons of books will come up. You can read multiple reviews from people who have actually read the books. | |

| What do you want to do??? Sounds a little like me, can't stand being stuck behind a computer screen programming all day...
If that is the case, but you enjoy programming (I know, sounds weird), I would recommend going into training. Should be the easiest transition for you since you have the background and CIW trainers are hot right now. Of course, you are going to have to do a lot of work to get the experience to stand in front of a class, but with the school it would seem there is a ton of opportunity to get that hands on.
That said -- I would recommend learning CSS, then JavaScript, ASP and XML... Probably in that order. JavaScript and ASP will pay some bills now, XML training just hasn't taken off yet.
Of course, it is up to you to decide where to focus!!! Good luck making the decision  |
