Author CIW Site Designer v4.0 (1D0-420)

Dear Readers,

Well, today, I appeared in the CIW Site Designer v4.0 exam (1D0-420). I was well prepared and my concepts were clear. I had a practical experience of web designing. I asked you people that is the material on this site for CIW Site Designer v3.0 or v4.0 and you people said that it is for both. But actually, v4.0 exam was very very tough. The main difference in v3.0 and v4.0 is this that they added a new Web Designing Tool named Dreamweaver 3.0 in this. The exam has about 50% questions about Dreamweaver 3.0 and I had no idea of this. There was only one question on Frontpage 2000 and 1 on shared borders. There was no question on NetObjects fusion. The exam was totally different and you can't even expect that type of paper after the preparation from the notes on this site & the questions from cert21 etc.

Some of the questions which I remember are:

1. When red & green colour is combined, which colour is formed?

A. Black
B. Brown
C. Yellow
D. Purple

2. How many shared borders can be created by Front Page 2000?

A. Three
B. Six
C. Four
D. Seven

There was no question about tables in the question at all. There was only one question on frames.

I am not sure if I would have appeared in the exam of Site Designer v3.0, I may have gained the score of atleast 90%s but I didn't pass this exam. Passing score was 75% and I gained the score of 67% with the help of my practical knowledge.

You can estimate that 50% questions were about Dream Weaver 3.0 & about 10-15% questions from the notes on this site.

If you people know any site from where I can get the notes of Site Designer v4.0 so please do let me know.

Thanks and Bye!

Dear Helan,

Actually, I posted a message on this forum that where can I find the material for Site Designer v4 and I was told that the notes on this site are for v3 and v4 as well. Anyway, I wanted to appear in 1D0-420 because the certification on v4 will be the latest and will remain valid for a long term whereas 1D0-320 is retiring on 31st Dec, 2000.

Well, just because they're retiring the exam doesn't mean people with the v3 cert won't be certified anymore. I didn't find anything on CIW's site that said these certifications ever expiring. Since that, I'm assuming it's lifetime like CompTIA. CIW is just retiring the v3 exam in December, not the cert's validity.

Guys, I have two questions :

1. Has anyone else taken the Site Designer 420 exam & is it REALLY difficult as compared to 320 ?????

2. Can anyone verify that if I get the Master Designer certification with the SD 320 exam, would I need to take an upgrade exam to keep the certification alive ??

Regards,
Prakash

Answer to Q.2---I havn't seen where CIW will require you to upgrade your cert. if they do, I won't upgrade unless it is a vendor neutral exam.

Recommendation: learn to program web sites using a basic test editor and HTML.
I can't beleive CIW is testing on these web design programs instead of the basics used by these programs. These programs are ever-changing and you can never keep up unless you use them everyday. I guess they're getting money from these program designers to promote their product.

Also, employers will hire someone who knows HTML over someone with Frontpage experience any day of the week. People who know HTML can fix problems or make changes faster and are more valuable. Best thing I ever did was learn HTML.

Dear Readers,

First of all, it is just our assumption that CIW is not going to retire our certifications but we are not sure. Anyhow, I would like to go for 1D0-420 because I want to keep up with the new technology. If you think that 1D0-420 does not include the topics of 1D0-320 then you are wrong. Actually, 1D0-420 includes all the topics of 1D0-320 plus some new Web Designing Softwares like Dreamweaver 3.0 etc.

I shall be very much thankful to you people if any of you can supply me with the material of 1D0-420 or tell me the link from where I can get it.

Lastly, I wanna ask to the webmaster if he is willing to add the material for 1D0-420 as well.

Thanks and Bye!
