Author Passed e-commerce with an 85%

2000-08-16, 7:18 pm

I took the e-commerce (425). It had 60 questions, 75mins, 75% required to pass. Only one module.

I thought it was a difficult test given I had no real study material. I took the entire 75 minutes, missed 9 questions. I even got cut off while reviewing a few questions, but I still saw GREEN.

Note: the study notes from this site (seem to be V.3) are not adequate enough for you to prepare for this exam (not that they are intended to). But the Net.Commerce stuff is not covered at all in this version of the exam. Also I did not buy the Cert21.com exam because I never got an answer on what version of the exam it covered. A few of their demo questions were from the v.3 exam (Net.commerce stuff), hence my hesitation to buy.

I found the study notes from: http://members.xoom.com/_XMCM/jlwel...udy%20Sheet.htm
to be a very good starting point.

I also found the study notes from creamsession to have a few good points, but not as good as the above one. http://cramsession.brainbuzz.com/pr...m_Des/guide.asp

I took the Site designer last Friday and then took the 4 days to "prepare" for the e-commerce. This is not to say it was an easy test, because I thought it was hard. But I had set-up an e-commerce server recently and knew some of the stuff being tested.

There were a few common sense/obvious questions that you won't get from a book, just deduce the obvious answer.

Questions/topics I can remember (not all inclusive):
*A few questions on shopping carts
*Definitely know the e-commerce solutions Inhouse and Instant Storefronts very well. There were at least 10 question on those.
*Know the types of encryptions well and what they do. I had about 5-6 questions on those.
*Know laws regarding copywrited materials as well as the other law related material.(IITF, NET)
*I had 2 questions on VPN's and how they operate.
*One <META> tag. question.
*Know the definitions of OBI, OTP
*I had nothing on programming laguages or IIS at all. No real vendor specific questions that I can remember.
*Know the payment gateways well. There about 6 questions on those.
*Know the definition of a payment gateway: Online catalog component that processes a credit card transaction to validate a card number and transfer funds.
*Know the encryption length of key. (key lengths are determined in bits - adding a bit to the length, doubles it.)
*There was one question about naming the types of encryption. Each answer had 4 choices. Asymetric, Symetric, One way are three. The fourth one I had trouble with the choice was between Hybrid and something else I can't remember.
*There were 2-3 questions on CA(Certificate Authorities).
*A few on SSL and SET.
*Some Marketing questions on which method to use in a particular situation.
*2 questions on the definition of e-commerce.

That's about all I can remember.
My brain hurts from this exam. It was not what I expected. But a pass is a pass.

I just wanted everyone to know that I was the one that submitted the notes for the E-Comm to this site. The textbooks for E-Comm were version 4 NOT 3. The exam at that time was still version 3 - that is the one I took. Before taking the exam I called ProSoft to find out more about the new exam. They told me that the only difference between the two is that there is no more Net.Commerce stuff on it and everything else was left as is. I used my notes for the exam, and sorry to say that my mark was much higher than yours. When taking certifications, these study GUIDES are not meant to replace actual textbooks and class instruction. This is probably why you found the exam difficult. If you want in depth detail about topics, get a book - don't rely on a few pages of notes.

Also, the questions on www.cert21.com have a few Net.Commerce questions, but is still worth the money. All the other questions are very relevant and will be helpful to pass the exam.

I hope that clears a few things up.

WHAT BOOK DID YOU USE FOR e-commerce EXAM AND HOW GOOD THIS BOOKS WERE IN PRAPERING YOU FOR THE REAL LIFE AND FOR THE EXAM AS WELL.

2000-08-18, 5:54 pm

Hold on there Che!! Your notes from THIS site DO talk about Net.Commerce stuff which is NOT on the v.4 exam. As you said yourself, so how can these be version 4 notes??? If we are not intended to learn from them, then why are they there???
Are you mad because it only took me 4 days to learn the concenpts they are looking for??
I do have some experience in the field by the way.

Also, I emailed you because I knew you were the one that posted these notes and wanted to know which exam they were for. I was told V.4, which may have been true at the time, about everything execpt the Net.commerce was covered however. I (and many others) just wanted clarification! NET.COMMERCE IS NOT ON THE V.4 EXAM! I hope THIS clears things up.

There is a lot of confusion between the 2 versions of the exams, which is why not a lot of people are taking it. I have gotten a lot of emails from my post wanting to know what I used to study with. The answer is pretty much nothing. At least nothing more than is already posted. And since I'm NOT paying $1995.00 just to get the books I took my chance, and passed. Sorry to offend you.

Also, the answer to the previous post, NO this exam will not prepare you for real life, real life prepared me for this exam, not the study notes. The books? Don't know, never saw one.

The books I have say on the inside cover that they are version 4. Maybe there is an updated version 4 books coming out - I am not sure.

I did say (re-read my previous post if you missed it) that Net.Commerce is NOT on the version 4 exam - as ProSoft told me. AND, the notes are relevant and ADEQUATE for a version 4 exam. Obviously, just disregard the Net.Commerce stuff.

And muggs - I did not pay $1,995 for the course, lot less here in Canada. The amount of time spent to learn a course is really irrelevant - the important thing is that you understand the concepts. I truly doubt that you really learned the concepts in 4 days! You are just good at taking tests. Have you ever heard the term "paper certfied"?

Study notes/guide are not meant for an indepth understand of any topic. They guide you to areas and topics you need to know and summarized the important points. If you want me to write a book, you'd pay for it - it wouldn't be on this site for free.

Muggs - I must have hit a nerve with you to get a response so quickly - I hope you don't lose and sleep over it tonight.

Don't worry about me. The only way to get a book here IS to take the course. If you're so, good , go write one and sell it. It's not so easy getting a contract. I did read your post, but why am I getting emails from all over the world wanting to know how I passed and what did I use to study. I call it like I see it,sorry if the truth hurts, but your study note are not for the exam I took. There are MANY topics and concepts on the exam not covered in your notes. I was just looking for something to guide me as to what to study and find OTHER books/sources.

And NO I'm not just paper certified, I do this for a living. I'm NOT looking for a job as I have a very good one thank you. Don't be so quick to judg when you kno NOTHING about me. A little immature on your part.

If you have any further questions/attempted flames, get some balls and email me and I'll be glad to answer them. This is not the place to do this.

Dear Readers (especially msuggs & Che),

Well, I cleared my E-Commerce Designer v4 Exam with the help of my real-life experience, examnotes & jwelch exam sheets. Both of them were very helpful. At that time, CramSession for this exam was not available.

Che, thank you for your great notes. I would like to tell you that there are different concepts of the people. Some people read alot of books before the exam. Some people can't read even a book because of many reasons that may include, money or they can't consume the whole text or some other problem. Some people read the braindumps and some of them read the notes and try the practice questions before the real test.

Actually, the main thing is the practical experience. A person who reads 4 books to clear an exam but if he don't have any type of practical experience then he can't do anything. So it means that a little practical knowledge is much more better than these 4 books. Secondly, the numbers on the exam does not matter. The grade (pass/fail) matters actually. If you think that the numbers matter then there are many people who cleared the Microsoft Exams with 1000/1000 but didn't even run the software of which they passed the exam.

Anyway, I want to congratulate msuggs on becoming Master CIW Designer and I would like to thank Che for his notes & contribution.

BTW, the books for CIW are rarely available in US & Canada on very high price along with the whole course but the books are not yet available in the Asia region and especially in PAKISTAN where I live, there is not even one book available on any of the exams of CIW, not even of Cisco Exams except for CCNA & CCNP.

Anyway, I am appearing in the Site Designer v4 exam on Tuesday i.e., 22nd of August, and not even learnt a word from the notes. Anyhow, I have the practical experience of designing professional webpages continuously from last 3-4 years. If you have any advise or suggestion, please let me know or if you know the address of any website where I can get the material for this exam.

Now, I am going to print the examnotes for Site Designer exam. Pray for me!!!

Thanks and Bye!

You were able to register for the Site Designer v4 exam? I called on Thursday to register for it but Prometric said it wasn't released yet, so I had to register for the v3 exam. Oh well, I take it tomorrow as well.

Dear Readers,

Well, the APTC Administrator assured me that the paper is confirmed but the paper was not download. When APTC Administrator asked for the reason from the main branch, they said that the exam is released but it is inactive at the moment. I don't know the reason but the paper is released and available in VUE Testing Centers right now.

But most probably, I shall be appearing in the exam by tommorow from VUE Testing Center.

Thanks and Bye!

Bilal Iqbal.
