The CIW is slightly easier. However, if you take the I-Net+ you will get the certification for that and a cert. for CIW foundations

haven't had a chance to look at the Inet+ questions, but the foundations exam has quite a few TCP/IP questions. Is that true for both exams ?

Thanks for the info.

My 2 cents: I took the i-Net+ a couple of weeks ago and passed w/ a 86. I'm also in the CIW program and took the foundations class.

My experience was that the Foundations material doesn't entirely match up with i-Net+ material. I'm so glad I picked up a couple of i-Net books to familiarize myself with what's emphasized because they are not identical. Example: the i-Net+ had no OSI/RM material. Plus, it emphasized security topics more than I thought and more than was covered in all the materials I studied (and why my score wasn't higher - ha ha). What I believe the downside of the i-Net+ is that there's more material that could be covered - the foundations exam, as I understand, is based solely on the prosoft training material and classes.

So bottom line is that if you're taking the i-net, don't just study foundations materials - they're a nice supplement but you need alternate sources (I looked at i-Net for Dummies for initial background and Exam Cram for more detail - I hear the Sybex is great & comprehensive but a longer read).

Thanks for all the helpful information. I may end up doing the I-net+ exam with the help of a few books and perhaps a company-paid class. As matt5hansen said, I will get 2 certificates for the price of 1 if I choose the I-Net+ over the foundations. My forte isn't networking stuff so I'll steer clear as long as I can help it.
