Gentlemen and Ladies I have failed 229 again, this is the second time I have failed this thing. I took it back in 2001 and I failed, I have taken it again and failed. I think the book I am using is not up to scratch. After all I have passed my other exams, so that means I am not stupid. Also the questions are based on such boring scenarios. Any book recommendations for 229

I used the MS Press book and found it to be pretty good. Honestly, if you can get your hands on it, the best prep. for MS tests has always been the MOC for me. Don't let it get you down man, everyone fails something or another more than once. The main thing is to keep working at it and retry within a few weeks while the last test is still fresh in your mind. Good luck on the next round!

The best book is the SYBEX MCSE SQL Server Design Study Guide.

Another good book is Inside SQL Server 2000.

The best practice tests are (in this order):
Trascender
Boson
Self test.

I agree with you on the practice tests, but never found the Sybex books to cover the material the way MS wants it covered. They always seem to have a lot of fluff to me and step around some topics that need hard factual information to fully understand.

Well Ive just recently passed 70-228 and hope to sit 229 with a few weeks. Been told by one of our DBAs that there is loads of crossover between the two.

Also I think I prefer the Sybex books. They may not cover everything but are much more readable. Though I don't think you can beat experience...been working as a DBA on SQL 2000 for the last few months and have learnt loads.
