is it better to complete mcsa before starting sql? is it better to know access beforehand too?

Depends on what you mean by better. If you are coming from a networking background the MSCE would be easier. If you are coming from a programming/developer background the MCDBA would be easier. Nothing easy about either one actually.

A second factor to take into account is cost. The MCDBA sql core counts as electives for MCSE. If you use exam 70-216 as your elective for MCDBA you have four of the seven exams for MCSE done when you complete the MCDBA. It might be even more since you have your Network+. Then you could do the MCSA as an intermediate step--MCDBA, MCSA, MCSE. That's the path I'm working on.

thanks for the advice.

i really must take a look at the m$ exam requirements, and work out a proposed path. i can't remember why i decided sql could be something good to learn (it made perfect sense at the time), but as my region is very m$- as opposed to *nix-based, it seemed to make sense to think about the m$ path (i am sure i could relate sql back to mysql if the need arises).

exchange also looks popular in my area too, so i won't set anything in stone until i look at the requirements sometime.

maybe i'd be best just finishing my mcsa first. lol.

thanks. i'm sure we'll do fine.

i got to stop jumping the gun, and just take one cert at a time. once i get the network+ to bed, i'll likely start on 210, possible 215 too depending on the cross-over, before deciding what electives i need to choose.
