70-019 (Designing and Implementing Data Warehouses with Microsoft SQL Server 7.0) and 70-216 (Implementing and Administering a Microsoft Windows 2000 Network Infrastructure)
I am looking for some comparative information on these two exams. Which is recommended for post certification usage? Which is the more difficult exam? Which would require more study resources?

Thanx,

Dori.

216 seems to require a lot of hands on with networking services and is one of the hardest in the MCSE track. 219 requires good knowledge of Win 2k Active directory and basic knowledge of networking, DNS, WINS, DHCP, etc. Personally, I think you would have a better time with 219 and learn a lot about the overall 2k enterprise.

Jeff,

Thank you very much for taking the time to respond, and thanks for your input.

I would like to trouble you a little further, if I may, as the information you provided related to exam 70-219 (Designing a Microsoft Windows 2000 Directory Services Infrastructure). I am considering taking the 70-019 (Designing and Implementing Data Warehouses with Microsoft SQL Server 7.0).

The similarity in the exam numbers can definitely be confusing. Please let me know if you have any info on the Warehousing exam.

Thank you very much, once again.

Dori.

Which certification depends on where you want to go with your career. If you plan on being a DBA for an enterprise business, the datawarehousing exam may be for you. However, if you plan to be a "jack of all trades" administrator like some of us, I would definitely recommend 216. You will get a much better understanding of Microsoft infrastructure services from it, and trust me, they will come in handy later... hehehe. As for 219, I didn't realize that was an elective for MCDBA... If it is, that is a pretty fun exam. Go for it! However, once again, if you plan to be a DBA and not just an admin/engineer, I would recommend taking all of the SQL exams, and then moving on to Oracle. Afterwards, start doing client/server stuff like ASP, VB, Javascript and HTML. Many of the companies out there who use databases now are doing some form of a client/server architecture with them (either for internal intranet or as an internet presence). Take a look back through the exam guidelines for both exams to help decide which is better for your path. Good luck

My mistake 019 vs. 219. Sorry. It sure looks as though 019 would be more along the lines of what you are already interested in. 216 will give you some real insight to basic Windows 2k services for networking, but I don't know how applicable it will be against how hard you will have to work on preparing for it. Just peruse the 216 forum right here to get a feel for what people on the MCSE track think of it.

Some people calls 70-216 is the beast, the 70-029 is easier than...

70-029 was worse than 70-216, as far as I'm concerned. I have no doubt that 70-019 is a real toughie, too.

I'd have taken 70-019, 'cept I'm not convinced anyone would care outside of this forum.
