Hi all, I am a first time sender many time reader.

I am interested in sitting some SQL exams. I have been using SQL 7 (and also 6.5) for the last 3 years and I have also completed moc training for the 028 exam around 12 months ago. I was think about sitting the 028 exam to go towards a mcdba. I have never use and or studied SQL 2000. What I would like to know form this forum is how different is the 028 from the 228 and what is the learning curve for an experienced database admin to study for the 228 if all I have used is SQL 7.

Thank you in advance for you comments.

I have never been a professional DBA; I had passed the 70-029 back in mid-December. In late March, I began studying for 70-228, and allocated two weeks of study time. Due to a stat holiday, which nixed my preferred exam slot, I ended up adding about 3 extra days study time, after which I took and passed the exam (my first attempt).

If you are familiar with SQL Server 7 admin, you should come up to speed quickly on 70-228.

The 228 and 229 has some focus on the new features in SQL Server 2000, like named instances, XML support, maybe enhanced collation support etc.

Check out the exam notes for 228, they're pretty good actually and focus on the differences between 228 and 028.
