| Hi There,
I am studying to sit 70-229 and it's my first MS exam so am having difficulty finding my feet so was wondering if anyone out there could answer some questions I have.
1. How do I find out what I need to study for. This is my main problem. I've downloaded a few study guides but they all seem to differ about what to study for.
2. I keep reading about Transcender and Books On Line. Are these websites or publishing companies? When I do searches for them I get non-related stuff.
3. Does anyone know how mush these exams cost in the UK?
4. Could anyone point me to some good websites for info on 70-229
I've ordered Professional SQL Server 2000 programming by Rob Viera which I read was the best book for this course. All the MS books seem to get really bad reviews. Has anyone who has passed this test got any good recommendations for books?
I am mainly a scripting language programmer (ASP, CF, Javascript) but have experience in SQL programming, Stored Procedures, ADO and various other bits and bobs.
Any help that anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,

| Judging from your post it seems as if you would not have so much hassle in preparing for 70-229 exam. But you did not state if you want to go for the MCDBA track or MCSE track.
Anyways to prepare for this exam you're best getting the exam study guide by Sybex or MS Press. In the UK these exams cost about £112 per paper. Happy learning, and you might want to use Transcenders after reading the books just to get accustomed to MS$ exam format and structure.

Transcender is a company that provides practice tests for most of the certification exams. They currently have 70-229 on sale for $149

Books online is a help file that comes with SQL Server Software. If you have SQL Server 2000 installed on your computer, you can find Books Online here:
Start->Programs->Microsoft SQL Server->Books Online

| Thanks for your help everyone.
Onoski,
I am looking just to pass 70-229 to get an MCP and then maybe look at doing another core and elective to go for the full MCDBA. But that all depends on how I get on with this one.
When you said that it costs around £120, was that for the test papers or the actual MS exam?
I was looking for the price of the actual exam and couldn't find it anywhere.
Once again thanks for all your input.

| The £112 - £114 is for the actual exam which you sit and take at a center normally ran through pometric on behalf of Microsoft. That's what each exam should cost you in pound sterlings as you can see they ain't cheap. If you still need further advice on this please do feel free to ask or send me an email. All the best and happy learning. | |

| I can vouch personally for the validity of the 70-229 Transcender, it sucks. The calibre was spot on, but the accuracy was no where to be found. I would try "Self-Test Software", or maybe examsimulators.com, they are great. If this is your first test, I'd lay thumbs on every piece of info I can get. Good luck | |

| Who's the girl swigga?
I paid for the 70-016 and the 70-100 exam just before the 4th of January when the prices 'inexplicably' went up. Wish I'd paid for the 70-229 exam then. A lot of the additional price in the UK is because of VAT but I think we're given a raw deal (it's not the economy stupid, it's ripoff Britain.) Ever noticed how the prices of book in the UK are only marginally less as an actual figure in sterling compared to the price in US dollars? You don't pay VAT on books. Is all this shipment costs? I wonder.
