two-node cluster ???

| I would think this is SQL question not the Windows 2000 Server question.
After passing 70-229 test, I am preparing 70-215 (Windows 2000 Server) test.
The first question in the first chapter asks which type of 2000 Server is better choice and the answer shows:
"Windows 2000 Advanced Server is recommended for the SQL Server two-node cluster and also supporteight-way SMP ..................."
Unfortunately, I checked back and forth on several SQL books but just cannot find out what is two-node cluster.
Need help clarify.
Thanks in advance. | |

| Dear 2lazybutsmart:
Congratulation to your pass 70-229. You are my dictionary and I do believe you can pass. What is your next?
Now, I spend more time in 70-215 site. I am jobless more than 6 months now. I think if I can get something MCSA, it might have better chance for me.
Anyway, really thanks for all your advices in the past. | |

| Congrats on the pass man! Coco, I have to agree with joeyc. I am getting more rusty on my SQL, but Windows 2000 Server does not support clustering, only adv server and datacenter server do. As far as what a 2 node cluster is and why would you want to use it, it can be used for improved performance or fault tolerance. Basically you can make 2 SQL servers act like one, or make one a standby server that automatically takes over for the main server if it fails. To see an example of this, check out this article from a guy who is using one:

Hope this helps Coco
BTW, I would recommend the Microsoft SQL 2000 Administrator's Companion. It explains clustering very well and is a good introduction to all of the aspects of SQL 2000. If you want more info on it, check here:
