| First of all welcome to the forum!! In answer to your question once you have passed the exams it does not necessarily mean you will get a job as an MCDBA, most companies look for experienced Database Administrators - but it will be one step towards your goal!! | |

| If your company uses SQL Server, you might be able to get into a database operator position, or just add some database work to your present job. If they know you and like you, they may be more willing to take a risk on your new skills. Then later you could probably transition into a DBA role.
If this is the kind of situation for you, I would start expressing your interest within your company in database work now, and not wait until you have finished your DBA.

| Good point nicole | |

| Nicole and Humtert,
I agree with your answers.
But, In the enterprise that I am working now, I think that is not possible because there are no opportunities.
It is a very difficult situation!!!
The main problem to me is about my salary.
I am a senior sistem analyst, I can not reduce my salary.
What can I do?
Thanks!!! | |

| A very much doubt you will find an entry level database position at the same salary. You might be able to find a position at your salary level that needs someone who also has database knowledge, and start a career transition that way.
I have no idea what the market is like is Brazil, though. In most places, you can't get a great paying job just because of a certification, but your industry experience may help you there. If I were you, I'd keep checking the local job listings and see if there are DBA positions that match your qualifications plus the MCDBA.

| Start a part-time consultancy. Lot's of little businesses can use a part-time expert. Create a web site & advertise your availability. Apply the same effort to aquiring experience that you did to your own cert process. | |

| Hello:
Nicole is absolutely right! I work for MS in DCOPS and am transitioning to our SQL team. While pursuing my MCDBA, I am job shadowing with our OPSSQL group. This is providing me with valuable SQL experience as well as networking with those who would be in a position to hire me.In addition, I am gaining valuable information which is helping me pass the MCDBA exams. This process has been ongoing for over 3 months, but in the end I will be able to land a job with our SQL group.
Hang in there, it may take some time, but in the end, it should all work out.

| Wow, Gary, it's great to hear a success story. You CAN transistion a career, it just takes time and persistence (and a little luck.) | |

I hope in few months put my success history in this IT Forum.
