I've just finished my A+ and Net+ exams and I have decided to become an MCDBA or try to become an MCDBA.Looking at the amount of posts on this board either nobody wants to do this or this area is overrun with people who have this certification.Or this is a very challenging CERT.Anyways I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on books or study materials. Also I read something the other day about moc's where can you get these and are they good to use.Any help would be appreciated.

Yeah, It seems as though this board is very dead. I to am studying for the Sql exams, So far I have the OSborne book ( which seems to be OK ) The cramsession and a few other study sheets I found around the net. I am suprised at how dead this board is, granted SQL is not really exciting stuff but, there are tons of jobs ( high paying jobs ) out there for SQL admins. If you want we can study together using this board. I am up to chapter 4 in the book.

I am studying for SQl 7.0 Admin, 70-028. Are you studying for the w2k server first?

Hey, I'm also studying to be a MCDBA. But I am going the NT 4 route first, and I shall upgrade to 2000 later. Currently, I have NT Workstation, Server, Server in the Enterprise, Networking Essentials, TCP/IP, IIS 4, and IEAK 4. Now I am going to take both 28 & 29 in the next month and a half or so, but it is a daunting task since I am a SQL neophyte. I heard that it is easier to understand SQL if you know Access well. Well, suprise suprise, I don't know Access that well either, but I do know Excel & Word very well. I am currently reading Microsoft Access Fast & Easy, and it is making me much more comfortable with databases (they're just like inter-locked spreadsheets that you can filter and manipulate). The books I have at home (and I bought a lot of them) are SQL Server 7 Unleashed (skimmed through it and it is pretty good, but very daunting), SQL Server 24-7 by Sybex (that assumes you are a SQL veteran so I'll read that last), and I just ordered yesterday from fatbrain.com Sybex's Administering SQL Server 7 (70-028) and the red and blue MCDBA boxed set which includes the 28 and 29 overview texts, and practice questions for both tests. I am going to set up a test NT server at home soon running SQL 7, but for now, I must learn to walk before running. Keep me updated on your progress, and I'll keep in touch about mine. Good luck, and I'll let you know how the books turned out!

MCSE, nay MCDBAWannabe!
MCSE, MCP+I, soon-to-be MCDBA & MCSE+I

Hi *,

A very good book is the "new riders" for SQL Admin! I took it for preparation. (Sorry I don't know the exact title by heart )

But for everybody:
Don't prepare with Access!!!

So if you know Access well, ok forget it, but if you're just starting, I can promise you're going to be confused! Access has different data types, different SQL syntax ans so on.

regards
Cat
