Author Question about the test

2000-12-15, 7:20 pm

Please help. When you get the 30 question test for 70-059 TCP/IP is it an adaptive test and does it let you mark your questions and come back later? Also has anyone gotten the 58 question test recently?

I took the TCP/IP test yesterday (12/14) and passed with a 933. The version I took was standard, which allowed you to mark the question and refer to it later. From the postings that I have read in the past 2 weeks, it seems as if the majority are getting the test in the above-mentioned format. Be sure to know DNS, WINS, and DHCP.
Practice, Practice, Practice your knowledge of DNS, WINS, and DHCP concepts using scenario questions. I had a good 5-6 scenario questions on my test. Subnetting questions were composed of looking at a diagram and determining if a host's IP address was on the appropriate subnet. There were about 2-3 other subnetting questions, too, which were pretty basic.
ALSO, BE sure to KNOW your utilities (i.e. NETSTAT, NBTSTAT, ARP,etc.), and the switches that are used with each one. That is the best advice that I can give you. Also, look at Freak's subnetting chart(refer to link in previous postings). Good luck in your endeavor! You should be able to study well now that Microsoft has extended the deadlines.

I haven't heard of a Microsoft adaptive exam at my training center for quite a while... anybody else?
BTW, the link to the subnetting guide is www.mcsefreak.com/subnetting.htm
Good luck, let us know if we can help!

Does that mean the 30 question test that I have heard of is not adaptive and let's you mark your questions and return to them at a later time? I am taking the test on 12/20/2000 and would like some clarification before I go there. Thanks,

Yes, if you get the 30 question non-adaptive you can mark your questions and come back to them later.
I wrote yesterday and had 30 questions non-adaptive with 60 minutes to do it in. I took 55 min, went back over it all to double check.
Know how to troubleshoot the network!!!!!! How to know if DNS/WINS/DHCP is working or not and what may be causing the problem, as well as your utilities and what they are used for.
Good Luck!

You can safely assume that it will be non adaptive. All the exams I have sat recently and from what other people have said lead me to this conclusion.

30 questions and you can mark them. But be prepared for either adaptive or non adaptive if you know what I mean

The only exam I ever missed in my life was an adaptive one... grrrrr... I'm still somewhat ticked off about it
