Author route add questions...

2000-12-07, 5:59 pm

is there a quick general rule of thumb on figuring the ROUTE ADD questions? seems like every practice question i get on these, i get it wrong, and cant come up with a pattern..
i understand you want to emcompass the whole address schema in the ROUTE ADD statements, but it seems like im always picking the near side or the far side of the wrong routers..
any tips would help alot!! thanks!

I have only one piece of advice for you: Be the Packet!
Imagine that you are the packet and travel with it on the wire.
If you can do that, you can get all the route add questions right.
As the matter of fact, that is my number one troubleshoting technique!

Saint Freak of the sorrowed TCP/IP student!!
thanks much bro...that's the best way of putting it that ive seen yet..ill give that method a try!
i do have one additional question on these while im thinking of it. ive seen some of the route add questions where the router address is the same as the subnet address on the near side (i guess) and some where its one or two bits higher -or- one or two bits lower..would the answer be the same in all three address scenarios? (sorry for the esotericness..lol)
