Electives to earn NT MCSE in 2000/2001

| I have completed my "Core 4" exams as of March 2K. Microsoft has stated that if 2 non-retired elective exams are taken by end of 2001, I can still earn my NT 4 MCSE. However, if I take the TCP/IP test before Dec. 31, 2000 (before its retirement) and then take Proxy Server 2.0 during 2001, will Microsoft still grant the NT MCSE?... or will Microsoft argue that since 1 elective is retired, that I will still have to take 1 more to earn it? (meaning that I will have had to take 7 exams instead of 6 to earn NT)
?...I really need an answer quick because I am considering sitting for TCP/IP in early DEc, unless it is not worth the rush.
Thanks for a quick answer. | |

| You have one year to replace an exam that is being retired. So if you take 70-059 before it retires 12/31/2000, you have until 12/31/2001 to replace it with another elective. If it is part of achieving MCSE in NT4, you are good to go. MS has stated that you can still achieve MCSE in NT4 after 12/31/2000. You just can't take exams that have already retired.
If you take 70-059 now, you are still going to have to replace it before 12/31/2001. You might think about taking another elective so you don't have to replace it so soon. If you like exams, go for it.

| I would advise you to take it, if only because you cannot administer and troubleshoot an NT network if you don't understand ALL of the info in that course. Also, it will make a great foundatin for Win2K when you upgrade your MCSE...

| i agree with freak...tcp/ip is a staple need...
HOWEVER, after seeing this quote from above: "If you take 70-059 now, you are still going to have to replace it before 12/31/2001. You might think about taking another elective so you don't have to replace it so soon." im confused as heck about these electives after 12-31!! i just want my MCSE 4.0 cert. and here is my plan for the rest of 2000:
1)finish tcp/ip 70-059 by 12-31
2)finish IIS 4.0 7-087 by 12-31
and complete MCSE 4.0 @ 12-31
-- OR --
substitute Exchange 5.5 70-081 by 1-31-01
and complete MCSE 4.0 @ 1-31-01
will this plan work or not ??
