| The TCP/IP exam will make you an MCP if you pass. If you want to become an MCSE then you have no choice but to become a MCP first. Good Luck! | |

| Nabeel Dear,
You will be an MCP right away when you will pass your first exam of 6 MCSE exams(4 Core + 2 Electives)
You can start writing exams in any order.TCP/IP is one of the many electives availbe to choose and a tough exam you are plannining to write it at # one.Why not Workstation at # one, relatively easy.

Windows NT 4.0 Workstation is just an oprating system, like windows 98.
Tips
1-you must install on you computer and practice.
2-you must complete all exercises with understanding from any good book like one from Sybex.
3.Then,you should practice your skills through free online tests like
A)freepractice.com
B)certifyexpress.com
C)certportal.com
D)Measureup.com(if you like,not free)
at the last do Peppe's braindump from any brain dump site.
If you are working and have little time to pass that you need 2 months at least. But TCP/IP is not wise decision, you will be last.
I am an MCSE,A+,Network+ with Master degree in Education. As for as I know you must start from Workstation.
May be too hot in KSA.Dua zaroor karna agar Baitullah jana ho to.

| One of the 4 core is Networking Essentials #70-058 and this will not give you a MCP status! | |

| Hi...
please send me the study materials if you can. What should u recommend that i go for first to achieve my mcse? Should i wait for the W2k instead? I know companies are still using WinNT and i want to take the test just to get some knowledge. Somebody mentioned the Workstation is the least hardest. I also heard the TCP/IP is not that bad either.
Please help...i need advice from people who has achieved there mcse. Thanks

| joenguyen,
I found workstation the easiest. The correct order to study is Network essentials, Workstation, NT Server, NT Server in Enterprise, TCP/IP, IIS4
The majority of MCSE's have in past followed this track.

Microsoft does not accept Network+ as a replacement for Net Essentials.
I learned that one the hard way

A+, Network+, i-Net+, MCP, CNA, 2/3rd MCSE

| I would diagree with the suggested order. I would STRONGLY suggest Workstation, Server, Enterprise, then Net Ess.
(Although the fact is most MCPs do follow the other order).

| i strongly suggest the order suggested by macaries. I am following it and will write TCP/IP in 2 weeks. TCP for the first exam ever seems like a big first step to me.\
Just my 2 cents worth. | |

I think you should start with whatever you feel most comfortable with. If you have used TCP/IP before and not NT then to me TCP/IP seems the logical choice.
Just cause other people follow a set path doesn't mean that you have to. I for example am sitting my enterprise exam last and sat my networking essentials first.
Everyone is different and are comfortable with different things. There is no 'correct' order.
As for MS waiving the Net Ess exam, I thought they did but obviously I was mistaken. Thanks for that advice kevth. I have given some incorrect information to a friend of mine but I will set him straight. Sorry you had to find out the hard way. But still the extra qual doesn't hurt. Hehe.
Giovanni my friend,
I could sure use whatever notes on the Enterprise exam.
Take Care all
See you all on the Dark Side

| Better get on it, the NT 4.0 track of MCP & MCSE exams will be retiring at the end of the year. Three months is a pretty tight timetable to complete all six exams. If you haven't started yet maybe consider the 2000 track. Any of the retired exams will not be usable in the 2000 track.
