Author Qeustion about NetBEUI and OSI layers...

2001-01-15, 2:16 am

I have conflicting info on the layer that NetBEUI operates on... My exam cram and a question on trancenders say "Session" but MCSEfreak and another damn question on trancenders say "Transport"... which is right? Or are they both right depending on something? HELP!!! I only have tomorrow left to study. Thanks in advance.

As you know, the OSI model is only a rough guide to the workings of protocols. Most protocols cross the boundaries of the OSI model. It depends on the question, so if you post the exact question it would help. As far as this exam is concerned, the main thing to remember about NetBeui is that it is not routable.

More or less I just wanna know which is the "Microsoft appropriate answer" for the exam.

The Trancender questions were as follows:

Which of the following are true of NetBEUI

Answer: NetBeui is a fast, non-routable protocol which funtions on the transport layer.

The other question was a simulation where you drag and drop items the the matching layer.... the answer in this case was to drop NetBEUI beside the session layer.

So which will they want on the exam? Its a fairly simple thing and I'd just hate to lose marks on the exam because of something this lame.

thanks again.
