Author Rarely Used NIC?

2000-07-30, 2:58 pm

I got one question from Transcender.
"Which of the following is the least expensive way to improve network performance?
a. install additional RAM on all computers
b. replace all bridges with brouters.
c. implement encryption to increase throughput
d. disable rarely used network adapter cards.

Answer: d
Explanation: Disabling rarely used network adapter cards can improve overall network performance by decreasing the number of broadcast packets on the network. Since each broadcast packet must be processed by every active adapter card on the network, the more adapter cards on the network, the longer the connection time.

Comments:It says disable rarely used network adapter cards. Does it mean just disconnect the network cable leading to the NIC? Does anyone have any idea on this?
