I am just starting my MCSE track. Does anyone have any advice on which exams or subject areas would be the best to begin with? I am thinking of starting with the Win2K3 tests so that my MCSE won't be outdated by the time I get it, but what would the people here advise as the best area to start with?

Thanks in advance.

Do the 2003 track and start with the core exams. I suggest doing the exams in consecutive order using the MS Press books. Build a lab to get hands on experience.

I have a lab at work. I was just wondering whether to start out with Active Directory or Exchange Server, or whether there was a particular order that would be the most productive. Thanks for your input.

Is you're asking whether to pursue the Exchange specialization I don't think it's that necessary. I think having a deep knowledge of AD is a necessary though so ensure you take the AD Design Exam.

For Windows 2000, I did the exams in this order:

70-210 - Windows 2000 Pro
70-215 - Windows 2000 Server
70-218 - Managing a Network Environment
70-216 - Network Infrastructure
70-217 - Active Directory
Security+
70-219 - AD Design

For Windows 2000, I did the exams in this order:

70-210 - Windows 2000 Pro
70-215 - Windows 2000 Server
70-216 - Network Infrastructure
70-217 - Active Directory

And I am working on in order:
70-220 - Security
70-228 - SQL Server Admin.
70-229 - SQL Server Design.

This will give me MCDBA as well as MCSE where aznluvsmc will have MCSA and MCSE.

I plan on taking 70-292 & 70-296 to upgrade to 2003 MCSE and that will include 2003 MCSA.

I always recommend studying for the 210 and 215 at the wssame time as they cover a lot of the same material. Then the 217, then the 216. By that time, schedule the 218 because you've already covered all that material and more.

After that, take the electives in whatever order you fancy in terms of topics...

Once you're done with the MCSE 2K, take the upgrade exams for the 2k3 mcse

This is true but if you look at how many NT organizations are still out there, a W2K certification will be a valuable asset for many years yet. The upgrade will open more doors and shows your commitment to keep up to date.
